These Frequently asked questions should help players, coaches and sponsors to understand
more about Roller Hockey as it relates to the Wave roller hockey program and it’s affiliates.
1. What are the age categories for players?
There are 8 age categories from 6 Under to 18 Under. Each Division is two years combined and
girls may play as one year lower than their male counterparts. Here is the breakdown:

How does a player register?
Any player can register for tryouts. You don’t have to be from Burlington however release rules
may apply. You can register online at www.waverollerhockey.com.
Is there a cost for tryouts?
This year Tryouts are absolutely free to all players!
How many tryouts are there?
Each team will have 2 to 3 tryout sessions in the spring to select a team of up to 14 players
including goalies.
When and where do tryouts take place?
All tryouts should take place in mid April as soon as the sport court is installed at Nelson arena.
What if I have a conflict with another tryout for a different sport?
Wave Roller Hockey makes every effort to avoid other spring tryout commitments.
Does the Rep. Program have a League Loop that they play in?
No. All Rep. teams participate in the Walter Gretzky Cup Tournament Series. This consists of four
weekend tournaments during the months of May, June, July. Teams also have the opportunity to
compete in the Provinvial and Canadian National Championships as well. Refer to the chart
below.

How much does it cost to play?
This year the fees have been set by the Wave Roller Hockey program to make all fees the same for
all players. If you do play in the Wave Roller Hockey house league program there is a small
reduction in your fees. Refer to the schedule of the fees structures below.

What do the fees include?
The player fees for 2008 include Free tryouts, Four Tournaments in the Walter Gretzky Cup Series, player
insurance to all events sanctioned by the NIHA and The OMRHA including NARCH and TORHS.
Caution ; Non sanctioned, non indigenous teams who play outside NIHA and OMRHA without approval are
responsible to carry there own player insurance for ANY event with any other Canadian or U.S. Affiliate. If you
are not sure contact your local OMRHA affiliate centre.
What does “Affiliate Player” mean?
An affiliate player is a house league player that may be able to play for the team but can only commit to one
tournament to replace an existing player who is unable to attend a tournament for whatever reason. The affiliate
player is expected to participate in the entire tournament. An affiliate player must be a registered house league
player in the Wave Roller Hockey program.
Do players get jerseys to wear and keep?
All players will receive a home and an away jersey to wear during tournament play. However, this year the jerseys
are not to keep. They will be collected by the coach after every tournament and returned to the Wave Roller
Hockey program at the end of the season. This helps keep the cost of inline down for all players and teams.
What Equipment do I need to play
Most of the equipment is the same as your hockey gear. Here is a convenient list.

I am a coach and would like to get involved?
This year we have an application process for new and returning coaches. Please be aware that the deadline for
coaching applications is February 29th 2008. An application may be obtained online at
www.waverollerhockey.com select the rep. Coaches application. Coaches need to able to commit to the Walter
Gretzky Cup Series as sanctioned by the OMRHA. Questions can be directed to the Rep. Director, Paul Midensky
