Q: How much does it cost for international students to attend Tri-State for one year? A for ESL: To attend Tri-State, an ESL student will need to document the availability totaling the minimum of $17,300 U.S. Dollars. Acceptable documents include bank, stock account statements, and the International Student Certification of Finances form. A for Undergraduate: To attend Tri-State, an undergraduate student will need to document the availability totaling the minimum of $28,750 U.S. Dollars. Acceptable documents include bank, stock account statements, and the International Student Certification of Finances form. Q: As an international student, can I receive transfer credit for my previous college-level work? A: Yes, if TSU offers the same course, you may receive transfer credit for your previous work. Q: Do you offer financial aid for international students? A: Tri-State offers scholarships available to all degree seeking students with a record of high academic achievement. Scholarships are not available to ESL students. Q: What is the on-campus housing policy? A: Any full-time student under 21 years of age and not living at home with a legal guardian must reside in the university housing. Students may move off campus following the completion of their sophomore year with the written approval of the Dean of Student Life and their parent or legal guardian. Q: What are the application deadlines? A: The application deadline for fall admission is May 1. The deadline for spring admission is October 1. Q: When must my tuition be paid? A: Payment of tuition, fees, and room and board is due at the Business Office on the date indicated on the student’s bill. Q: How do I find a roommate?
A: If you are living on-campus and you do not request a specific roommate, you will be assigned a roommate(s) based upon the information you provide on your housing application. Q: How do I apply for on-campus housing? A: To apply for on-campus housing go to Housing Information Form. Q: Who do I ask for help to obtain a visa? A: When you have completed the steps to apply for Tri-State, the Dean of Admissions will issue you an I-20. Q: How do I travel to Tri-State? A: You can reach Angola, Indiana via air travel by flying to either the Fort Wayne International Airport, located approximately 1 hour away from Angola, or the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, located approximately 2.5 hours from Angola. NOTICE: Fort Wayne is not Indianapolis. Q: Must I have medical insurance? From where do I obtain this? How much does it cost? A: All international students will be required to carry Tri-State University’s student insurance unless they are government sponsored and can provide proof on insurance through a sponsor. The semester cost for is $490 U.S. dollars. The annual cost is $980 U.S. dollars. Q: Can I work on-campus? A: Degree seeking students who have an I-20 and F-1 are eligible to work on-campus. You must apply for a social security number as soon as you are hired. Q: What are your academic terms? A: Tri-State University operates on semesters. A new academic year begins the third week in August. There are two semesters in an academic year. Q: What documents do I need to apply for admission? A: After applying online, you should send all secondary school academic records. These records should include all courses taken, grades received and degrees or certificates earned. An explanation of your school’s coding system used to evaluate your work
should accompany the records. Make sure to add all post secondary. Tri-State offers an ESL (English as a Second Language) program designed to help students whose native language is not English. This class is recommended in order to successfully complete college-level classes. Q: Can you issue an I-20 to an international student? A: Yes, an I-20 is issued once an international student has been admitted. (To apply for a visa, please send your I-20 documentation and acceptance letter to the U.S. embassy in your country.) Q: What is the minimum TOEFL requirement for an international applicant? A minimum TOEFL score of 550 is required on the paper test, or 213 on the computerized version as a degree seeking student. If lower the student will be requested to take English and a Second Language (ESL). Q: Is on-campus housing available for international students? A: Yes.
