Community Trading Standards
2. What is the purpose?
To give individuals confidence to make informed decisions about whom they purchase goods and
services from and what goods and services they require.
Community Trading Standards Officers engage with the Community at all levels in Portsmouth to find
out what is effecting all parts of every Community and then:-
a) Channel that information back to the TCG of the Trading Standards Service for a decision on
whether any Intervention action should be taken by the Trading standards Service;
b) Signpost members of the Community to the relevant and correct agency if the issue is not a
matter which the Trading Standards Service can help with or where the member of the
Community is vulnerable to actually pass the information on;
c) Educate members of the Community on Trading Standards Law;
d) Assist vulnerable members of the Community.
3. Who is affected?
All members of every Community in Portsmouth.
