                                    MONDAY, DECEMBER 21, 2009

Attention Seniors: The B.E.S.T. Scholarship application will be available online the week of
December 21, 2009. Approximately 60+ scholarships from $500 - $2,000 for 2 and 4-year
degrees are available. The general scholarship application form, recommendation form, and
checklist are available online through the HUHS homepage under Services/Counseling/
Scholarships. Be sure to request any recommendation well in advance, the form is available
online. Plan ahead -- do not wait until the last week. Applications are due by 3:00 PM on
Monday, February 15, 2010, in the Counseling Office. No applications will be taken after the
posted deadline.

Optional Informational Meeting: January 13, 2010 – During Study Time 10:57 AM or 11:27
AM – Report directly to Drama Lecture and sign in for attendance purposes. B.E.S.T. Board
members will be available to provide information about the scholarships, application process,
and answer questions.

Help is available in the Library Media Center after school on Monday – Thursday (2:45 – 5:00
PM) Friday (2:45 – 4:00 PM).

Forensic Team members: check your email and print the 3 page form. You MUST turn it in with the
required signatures BEFORE you leave for winter break, TOMORROW! Completed forms and yellow
emergency cards should be turned into Mrs. Lau/Mr. Schlitt in the co-curricular office. It is your
registration for January 8th's MEGA MOUTH, a qualifying event for the first tournament of the season
on Saturday, January 23rd. `If you didn't receive the form, check in the library, as there should be
forms available by the end of the day!

The JV Ice Bears lost on Friday to Arrowhead by a score of 5 to 2. The Varsity lost to Arrowhead 5 to 1.
On Saturday the varsity team lost to Neenah 4-3 while the JV team ended their game in a 3-3 tie.
The varsity and JV team plays at Waupun on Tuesday December 22nd. The JV game starts at 5:30 pm
with the varsity game following at 7:30 pm.

That latest edition of the school newspaper, the Hartford Chronicle, is in.
Pick up your copy of the national ranked student publication today during both lunch periods. Only 25
cents to purchase or bring you ID if you’re a subscriber.

This is a reminder to juniors who took the PSAT test and didn’t attend the interpretation meeting on
Wed; please stop in the counseling office to pick up your results today!!!

The H-Club will be sponsoring a holiday dress-up day tomorrow Tuesday Dec. 22. Judging will take place
during the lunch hours and prizes will be given out for the best holiday ensemble for

Intramural basketball for boys and girls will be starting on January 13th. Sign up sheets to form your
teams can be picked up in the Co-Curricular Office and must returned before January 6th. There is a
$70.00 school fee per team this year that is non-refundable. All teams must have at least 8 players and
no more than 10 players. Students with more than 1 failing grade at the progress report date on
December 14th will be ineligible to be on the team.

Attention ALL Motivated Writers: Are you looking for an AWESOME college resume builder? he
University of Iowa (Iowa City) will be running two sessions of its nationally recognized Young Writer’s
Studio from June 20 – July 3 or July 11 - July 24 2010. The Studio is in its tenth year and allows students
to explore the “lifestyle of a writer”. Students will learn about various genres of writing from excellent
faculty, share their work, and form a lasting network of like-minded peers. To be eligible, students
must have completed their sophomore year by June 2010 and be in good academic standing (2.5 GPA or
above). See Mr. Geracie in Room 112 for a more detailed brochure on this exciting opportunity.

The JV Co-Op Hockey team (which includes HUHS) is selling Admiral Hockey Tickets for all home games.
The tickets; a $16 value, are for the Stem & Bow sections (goal ends) at the Bradley Center. Tickets can
be purchased in the co-curricular office. Checks or cash accepted. Checks should be made out to Ice
Bears Hockey. Tickets will be on sale until December 23rd. All proceeds go to the Ice Bears Hockey Team.
