Downloadable Audio Book FAQ What are they? • • • • • • • eAudiobooks are digital versions of audio books available through the Internet using your home or the library’s computer (will not work on Macs at this time) Included in Plano’s eAudiobook collection are current best sellers, book club favorites, classics, the Holy Bible, and Pimsleur Language Programs Check out a maximum of 10 eAudiobooks in any 3-week time period Checkout is for 3 weeks (the license automatically expires preventing access) Can be renewed from a home computer License lets you copy the audio book to a portable listening device Cannot be returned early What software do I need? Browser • • • • • • Internet Explorer 5.5 and above Netscape 6.2 and above Mozilla 1.1 and above Firefox 1.0 and above Safari 1.0 and above Opera 7.0 and above Cookies • NetLibrary requires your web browser to support cookies and to have all cookie options enabled Media Player • • Microsoft Windows Media Player v.9 and above NOTE Most portable listening devices do not support the playback of files lower than 32 Kbps, so you must download the CD quality file if you are going to transfer the file from your computer to a portable listening device What kind of portable player is needed? • See NetLibrary/Recorded Books recommended players Will not work on iPods at this time How do I find and check out downloadable audio books? • • First-time users must create a NetLibrary account from one of the Plano Public Libraries’ Internet computers If needed, please ask for assistance at the Reference Desk To Start Searching 1. 2. (To browse selections) From the Basic Search screen select the eAudiobooks link from the In Our Collection box in the upper right hand section of the screen. (To search selections) From the Basic Search screen enter the search criteria and click the Search button. If you double click, it can direct you to another Player and will not work correctly If Window’s Media Player is not used, then the proper license will not be acquired and the file will be unusable In order to acquire a license you may be prompted to enter your NetLibrary username and password at this point How do I transfer the file to a portable device? • • • • Attach your portable player to your computer Double click on the file you have just acquired license All transfers to a portable device must occur within Windows Media Player Do not disconnect device while copying is in process. After copy is done, click on the icon with the green arrow at the bottom right corner of your screen For Windows Media Player 9: Select Copy to Device or CD from the menu on the left side of the screen Use the pull-down menu at the top of the right side of your screen to list all music Choose your device from the drop-down menu on the right side of the screen. Make sure the box next to the book you want to download is checked Click on the Copy button on the top to the right of your screen For Windows Media Player 10: The file will show up on the right side Select Sync from the menu at the top of the player The name of your plugged-in device should be in the right panel of the screen Your audio book should be in the Sync list on the left panel of the player. Put a check in the checkbox Click on the Start Sync button on the upper left How do I download in the library? Using MP3 player: Attach an MP3 player to the PC Click Download this eAudiobook Select Check Out & Download CD Quality Save the file to the D drive of the public PC After the downloading is complete, click on Open Window’s Media Player 10 will appear. Click on Next button Under the screen of Select your privacy options, click on Next button Under the screen of Customize the Installation options, click on Finish button Minimize Window’s Media Player Click on Common Shared Drive Double click on the file you have just saved License will be acquired on that PC Follow steps of For Windows Media Player 10 to transfer it to MP3 player Please note that once you end your computer session, the file you saved on the D drive will be deleted. Once downloading starts, you will not have access to the same title from any other computer for 21 days even if you have not completed saving to the D drive or transferring to the MP3 player. Downloading to a flash drive: Attach a USB flash drive to the pc Click Download this eAudiobook Select Check Out & Download CD Quality Choose USB drive and Save Do not double click on the file. Double clicking will prompt you to accept the license on that PC and you will not be able to use the file at home Go home and copy the file from the flash drive to your desk top Right click on the file, select open with, choose Window’s Media Player In order to acquire a license you may be prompted to enter your NetLibrary username and password at this point Do not double click or allow the PC to choose a program to open the file. If you double click, it may not open with Window’s Media Player and the file may not work correctly How do I renew? • • • • You are permitted one renewal Log in to your NetLibrary account and look at "Checked Out Items" Click on "Download this eAudiobook" Under Options, click on "Renew your checkout for 21 days" Please note that if you have originally saved your file on one of the library’s computers, renew will not work! I'm having problems, what do I do? I got the message “We are unable to issue a license to play the audio book on this computer because a license has already been issued for this audio book on another computer. Please use the computer you used to originally open the file in order to listen to or transfer the audio book.” Can I still listen to it? • • You received this message because the license for the audio book is on the computer where you originally opened and played it No, you can not play it again on another computer Why doesn’t the audio book download, even though I get an acquiring license message? • • If you have an older Windows Media Player version the download appears to be working. Windows Media Player shows “acquiring license,” but eventually you get a message that you don’t have a license to play the audio book You need to download a newer version of Windows Media Player Where can I find more help?
