A “STORY” of President
Sally C10 speech-June 26,2008
An old Chinese proverb says, “A good beginning takes you halfway to success.” If that’s true, Sally may be feeling a lot of pressures. In July of 2007, I accepted the role with a president. “I make a solemn promise to PTC members. I will complete the task beautifully and successfully.” Tonight I will give a farewell speech and tell you a “STORY” of President.
Support comes from senior members.
First I would like to show my appreciation to our senior members for the support they gave me in the past year. When I wanted to put PTC award record on our web site, one of the members volunteered to be a photogher and sent us the beautiful photos ASAP. Did you know who the volunteer was? Yes , he was our smiling architect –Eric Liang. When I felt a little sad about Low attendance rate of monthly meetings, there are always encouraging words from Melody, Jean, Jenny, Bill and Sue. On June 5, my last Monthly meeting only 5 members attended it . Melody said to me tenderly, “Sally, you are a good president. You are very good. It’s not your fault. It’s our problem” That was the most beautiful and kindest evaluation I have ever heard.” Without your support, Sally couldn’t keep going till today.
Trust comes from officers.
No understanding, no trust. Sally had a greeting list as follows: Secretary Jean was always busy but never forgot to e-mail the minutes to me after PTC Monthly Meeting. Sergeant at Arms, Edwin. Casey reminded me many times that I needed to express my praise to Edwin in public but I always forgot. As he always arranged the meeting room at least 30 minutes before the meeting began. Edwin, thank you for your good job.
I always need financial report on the meeting. She always said, “PTC has a lot of money.” and gave us “Ha! Ha!’ big laughter and sat down quickly. Thank you, our charming treasurer Jenny. We were always informed of new activities from our Vice President Public Relations. The PRVP and our Charter president Grace always kept her graceful smile when announcing many trainings and activity reports to us. Jolene, our Vice president membership I know you have been busy recently. Thank you for your assistance of providing the roster to members. My suggestion to you is that if you can try to spare Thursday for us when you arrange your schedule, we eagerly want to see you in our regular meeting often. Of course, there is one more man whom I really need to give my big thankfulness. Ladies and gentlemen, do you want to know who he is? I bet you do. Yes, the Vice president Education, Homer. I admired the theme of the meeting he searched from yahoo or Google. Without his help as EVP, there wouldn’t be any colorful meetings of PTC or Sally’s joyful president career in 2008. Thank you, Homer. Thanks to all of the officers for your great effort and let Sally trust your resposibilites in the past year. Open mind and accept suggestions. My dear fellow members, I heard that somebody said “It is too bad we received a magazine every month but did not tear down the cover to read excellent articles in it.” It reminded me to invite senior members to conduct magazine- reading. From Jan. 2008. Eric, ,Melody,Grace,Jean,Bill,Jenny and even new member Fiona joined the study club held in each monthly meeting and help achieve our goal- to improve our reading ability. I learned many words and skills about Toastmasters. Now, I am not afraid of reading English newspaper any more. I owe all of this to the great effort of our senior members. Did you, my fellow PTC members, also enjoy the magazine- reading ? May we have a big applause to our reading teachers? I really believe that if we open our minds and accept good suggestions, we can enrich our life.
Show Respect for new members He always followed his progress report step by step to achieve his plan. He always e-mailed his script to me before he made a speech and he always did the good job in his speech. (see the picture-he got awards as the best speaker in both Table topics and manual speech contests .) He is one of the best members I had ever met in PTC. We need to learn his spirit I respect you. Yes- Ow. Yes, I got new feeling and new value from PTC.
I always express my concern to Laurance. On May , Sue, Lilllian and I encouraged Laurance “If you didnot pass in the first time, you still have the second time to make the speech.” On June 5 at nine oclock PM, Laurance called me happily and confirdently ,” Sally, I am ready for my C10 speech.” Unfortunately, Laurance did not pass in his first try, so tonight he needed to make it again. I appreciate his perseverance. Just like a famous advertisement says “ Trust me. You can make it.” Ow! Yes, Laurance, we trust you can do it well tonight. Ladies and gentlemen, according to our Distinguished Club Program, we strive to achieve 9 points this year. Tonight,
Laurance and Sally are important to get 1 point. And if we get 9 points, PTC can be as a President Distinguished Club. Will you be excited about this result? Believe it or not, the experience that I have learned from PTC members and president can also be a helpful reminder of how to achieve any goals not only in PTC but also in life. Right?
