     The Krispy Kreme Challenge is the newest
     tradition at NC State University

The 5th ANNUAL KRISPY KREME CHALLENGE
WILL BE HELD SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2009.
     Annual, student held race in Raleigh, NC
     Begins at the NC State Belltower at 9:00 a.m.
     Involved   3,500 runners last year
     Organized, planned, and executed by
     N.C. State  students
     Started in 2004 by Peyton Hassinger and
     Greg Mulholland
     One of NC State’s fastest growing traditions,
     having increased from 10 participants to
     nearly 3,500 since its beginning in 2004
     The Krispy Kreme Challenge benefits
     the NC Children’s hospital, donating
     $20,000 in 2008

On February 7, competitors hailing from areas
around the triangle and the state will converge
at NC State Univeristy’s belltower to participate
in NC State’s newest tradition, the Krispy Kreme
Challenge. Competitors are charged with the dif-
ficult task of beginning at the NC State Belltower,
runnning 2 miles to the Krispy Kreme Bakery on
Peace Steet, eating 1 dozen doughnuts, and run-
ning 2 miles back — all in under an hour. Krispy

by the K2 Challenge, a student-run organization
benefiting the NC Children’s Hospital.

                          5th Annual Krispy Kreme Challenge
                          University students continue the newest tradition at NC State
                          RALEIGH, N.C. — NC State University has announced the 5th
                          Annual Krispy Kreme Challenge, which will be held Saturday,
                          February 7. The Krispy Kreme Challenge is a student-organized
                          race benefiting the NC Children’s hospital. The Krispy Kreme
                          Challenge started as a competition between a few friends and
                          has grown to include nearly 3,000 runners and to raise $20,000
                          for the N.C. Children’s Hospital in 2008.
                              To complete the Krispy Kreme Challenge competitors be-
                          gin at the NC State Belltower, run 2 miles to the Krispy Kreme
                          store on Peace Street, eat 1 dozen doughnuts, and run 2 miles
                          back to the Belltower-all in under an hour.
                              “We really want to give the students at N.C. State some-
                          thing to be proud of,” said Barton Strawn, one of the student
                          co-chairs of the K2 Challenge. “We want the Krispy Kreme
                          Challenge to become a tradition that everyone feels like they
                          should participate in — at least once.”
                              The planners of the 2009 Krispy Kreme Challenge expect
                          extraordinary growth in participation this year. Register online
