PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRIVING RECORDS CHECK
As a condition of consideration for employment, each applicant must supply Pittsboro Fire-Rescue
with a certified copy of their driving history covering the past seven (7) years.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT CRIMINAL RECORDS CHECK
As a condition of consideration for employment, each applicant must supply Pittsboro Fire-Rescue
with a certified copy of their criminal history covering the past seven (7) years.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL EXAMINATION
All successful applicants will be required to pass a department physical examination. This physical will
be performed at a facility chosen by Pittsboro Fire-Rescue. Pittsboro will pay for this
physical exam.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT ALCOHOL AND DRUG SCREENING
 As a condition of employment, each successful applicant for employment with the Pittsboro Fire-Rescue
 Department, Inc must submit to a pre-employment alcohol and drug screening. Either refusing
 to sign a consent form (authorizing the test to be conducted and the results to be released to the Fire
 Chief) or obtaining results which show the applicant to be physically incapable of performing
 the duties of the position in question will exclude him/her from further consideration.
"Physically incapable" is defined as no reasonable accommodation available that would make it possible
 for the individual to perform the essential job functions of the position in question.


PROBATION PERIOD
All Newly hired full time employees are subject to a 6 month evaluation or introductory period to allow
the Pittsboro Fire-Rescue to verify skills, capabilities, and suitability of the employee for the
department. The designation of this probationary period does not constitute an obligation on the part
of the Pittsboro Fire-Rescue to retain the employee for the entire period specified. During the
probationary period, the Fire Chief or the employee may terminate the working relationship without
cause and without advance notice. At the end of the 6-month period, the Fire Chief may extend the
probationary period for an additional time if needed.

The Simple IRA , Long Term Disability will not be available until the 6 month Evaluation period is complete.


RELEASE OF PERSONNEL INFORMATION
With the exception of records and information that the department is legally required to
provide to government agencies or under court order, the Pittsboro Fire-Rescue Department
will release no information about any employee, unless a signed authorization from the
employee is on file.

     FIREFIGHTER AND FIREFIGHTER/DRIVER/MEDICAL RESPONDER

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This individual will be responsible for the day to day operations of the
Pittsboro Fire-Rescue Department and will include responding to emergency
situations. Duties will include, but not be limited to the following:


       Pre-Incident surveys
       Maintenance and inspection of equipment
       Station and building maintenance
       Response to Fire, Rescue and Medical Responder Calls
       Post fire clean-up of equipment
       Vehicle maintenance
       After hour call back required
       Keep reports and records updated
       Fire Prevention related duties
       Lawn and grounds maintenance
       Water point inspections and maintenance
       Hydrant inspections and maintenance
       Other Fire, Rescue and Medical Responder related duties

RECRUITMENT STANDARDS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
      Basic knowledge of fire apparatus maintenance
      Ability to follow oral and written instructions
      Basic knowledge of modern fire fighting equipment
      Ability to exercise sound judgment and react
      effectively and appropriately in emergency situations

       Two years experience in fire service and Certified NC Level II Firefighter
       Ability to pass Pumping and Emergency Vehicle Driving Test
       Certified Medical Responder or higher level of EMS
       N.C. Hazmat Awareness and Operations Certification

Working Hours

       Shift work (24 hour rotating shift)

PAY PACKAGE

Starting Salary       - Firefighter/Driver/Medical Responder -30,000 up to 35,000

Training Certification Benefit – PVFD recognizes certain levels of training certification to
                                 qualify employees for a salary increase. The employee may only
                                 receive credit for two certifications per year. Credit will be
                                 awarded on July 1st of each year (new probationary employees
                                 will only receive this credit when they obtain permanent full
                                 time employment status).
                                 For each level of certification the employee
                                 will receive a 2-½% pay increase. The levels recognized at this
                                 time are as follows.


                             -    N.C. Certified Emergency Rescue Technician
                              -   N.C. Certified Driver/Operator
                              -   N.C. Qualified Level II Instructor




All full time paid employees of Pittsboro Fire-Rescue Department will be evaluated by
their supervisor on a quarterly basis. Board Of Directors will make decisions for annual pay
increases or adjustments. Salary increases are usually in 2½ % increments but not to exceed 5%
in one year.
Uniform Allowance - $600 per year


Retirement Package - Simple IRA plan with PVFD matching up to 3% of the
                     Employee's salary per year. Additional information
                     supplied upon employment.


Pension Fund:          - Pittsboro Fire-Rescue will pay $120 per year to North
                         Carolina Fireman's and Rescue Workers Pension Plan



 Call Back:             - Employee will be compensated for all approved
                          overtime.


Educational Leave: At discretion of Fire Chief.

Employee may accumulate 2,080 hours sick leave time. Sick leave is not payable on termination
except under the following criteria.

After an employee obtains 15 years of paid service with Pittsboro Fire-Rescue
They will be paid for a percentage of their accumulated sick leave upon
leaving the department. The rate paid to the employee will be based on
the median yearly income from the beginning until the end of there
employment.

The following scale will be used.

Holiday Pay:

All shift employees are expected to work on all holidays. Shift employees that work on the
holidays recognized by Pittsboro Fire-Rescue Department will be paid double their regular
hourly rate.

                               Job Description
                   Firefighter/Driver- Medical Responder

Definition:

This classification of existence will participate in fire suppression,
prevention, and rescue activities in protecting life, property and the
environment and provide first aid response to medical emergencies.

Characteristics:

This Firefighter/Driver- Medical Responder position is distinguished from
the Fire Captain position in that Firefighter/Driver –Medical Responder’s do
not directly supervise personnel. They are expected to perform the full range
of fire suppression, safety and prevention duties on an in-service training
basis and to learn and perform skills in all areas of work assigned.

Supervision:

Answers to Shift Lieutenant, Shift Captain, Assistant Chief, or Fire Chief.


Essential Duties:

Drive and operate all fire apparatus and equipment; respond to rescue calls
And administer medical care. Must be able to operate a variety of tools and
equipment related to fire suppression, rescues and hazardous materials
activities, perform extrication techniques. Serve as a hose operator in
firefighting situations including laying hose, pulling working lines, holding
the nozzle to direct stream of water on fire and raising and lowering and
climbing ladders. Candidate must be able to perform and assist in salvage
and overhaul operations. Inspect and perform routine maintenance on rescue
Equipment, fire apparatus, hydrants, hoses and other support equipment. Be
willing to participate in continuous training .Must be able to operate pumps
on engines. Assist with Fire Department Pre-Plans and other functions of the
Fire department. Operate communications equipment following correct
procedures. Learn and study PVFD Rules and Regulations, fire hazards,
and firefighting techniques, and related subjects. Clean and maintain station
and apparatus.

Additional Duties:

Prepare reports with respect to work operations. Maintain and update
Department maps, keep up with and update equipment records. Assist in
maintaining fire hydrants. May have to testify in court hearings.


Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:


A valid Class B North Carolina Driver’s License.

Certified NC Firefighter Level II

Certified Medical Responder

Hazardous Materials- Operations Level


Working Conditions:


Will be required to work 24 hour shift assignments, including weekends and
holidays, and may be required to work overtime with little or no notice. Due
to work required firefighters may be required to work under the following
conditions:

Required to wear protective gear, carry appropriate tool, and wear a self-
contained breathing apparatus while performing many of emergency related
duties. Could be exposed to hot and cold temperatures and various types of
dangerous weather.

Example of Duties:

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Suppression and control of building and other fires by operating
firefighting equipment in hazardous areas, confined spaces and high places
such as ladders. Suppresses grass and brush fires using fire hose and
equipment and wildland firefighting hand tools. Conduct rescue operations
from smoke filled or confined areas that have been compromised by fire.
Cleans up debris and does salvage work during and after firefighting.


2. Performs emergency medical treatment to the minimum Medical
Responder Level.

 3. Performs technical rescues using ropes and associated rescue hardware,
various power tools and hand tools and techniques for special rescue
situations (mechanical entrapments, confined spaces, high angle, and trench
rescues).

4. Respond to hazardous materials releases to safely isolate and deny entry,
to make appropriate notifications, and perform mitigation tasks as
appropriate.

5. Perform company level fire prevention inspections and hazard reduction
activities.

6. Performs public relations and educational awareness actions by meeting
and speaking to civic and school based groups.

7. Drives and maintains firefighting apparatus. Performs minor repair and
inspection work.. Makes necessary adjustments as needed.

8. Completes routine daily fire station janitorial and maintenance tasks.

9. Performs other related duties as required
