TEAM LEAN 2007 What is Team Lean? • Team Lean 2007 is a 12-week weight loss competition sponsored by Memorial Hospital and Manor and the Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA. • Team Lean will begin on Wednesday, January 31, and will end on Wednesday, April 25. • Teams of five people per team compete to lose the highest percentage of weight during the competition. • Cash prizes are given to the top teams at the end of 12 weeks. How Does Team Lean Work? • Each team member must weigh in each week and pay $5.00 per week to remain in the competition. • For every pound gained, team members must pay $1.00. • Cash prizes are distributed at the end of the competition to the top teams and overall biggest loser. (All fees and penalties collected from team members are distributed to the winners and participants.) Why has Team Lean been successful? • Team effort motivates participants to stay focused on losing weight through diet and exercise. • Cash prizes motivate participants to remain competitive throughout the 12week program. • Team members choose their own diet and exercise program. Who can join Team Lean? • Any business, civic organization, church, or any individual groups may form teams of five people per team. • There is no entry fee to participate, other than payments of $5.00 at each weekly weigh-in, starting with the initial weigh in on January 31, 2007. You may pay the full amount up front, but there will be no refund if you quit or get voted off a team. • Anyone who wants to lose weight may participate. What are the Team Lean rules? • All participants must be at least 13 years of age by January 31, 2007. • Participants between the ages of 13 and 17 must have parental and physician release. • All participants will weigh in at Memorial Hospital and Manor on the 1st week, 6th week and 12th week. • All other weigh-ins will be held on Wednesday of each week at the following locations: Memorial Hospital Bainbridge/Decatur County YMCA Any Decatur County School (school employees only) • Convenient weigh-in times will be held from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. to accommodate different schedules. Memorial Hospital and Manor – 6 am to 6 pm Bainbridge/Decatur County YMCA – 6 am to 10 am and 4 pm to 10 pm Any Decatur County School – See School Nurse for times • No disrobing allowed during weigh-ins. • T-shirts and shorts are recommended for the initial weigh-in. • Healthy eating and exercise are encouraged. • Drastic weight loss (over 5 lbs./week) is discouraged. • No sabotaging other teams. • Everyone must weigh-in weekly or fines will be added. Missing weigh-ins may result in disqualification. • Participants must bring their Team Lean folder each week to record weight. Weights will not be given out any other time. • Team members can only be voted off (by their team members) for failing to weigh-in or steadily gaining weight. Only one team member may be voted off a team. • If a team member is consistently weighing-in but not losing a great deal of weight, they are not subject to be voted off. What if team members drop-out? • Team members can not be replaced. • Team members may drop out by the 6th week without penalizing the rest of the team. • After the 6th week, team members may drop-out but their weights will be calculated into the team’s total weight, which may lower the team’s weight loss percentage. What are the benefits of Team Lean? • Weight loss and regular exercise lead to better health. • Team competition promotes camaraderie, encouragement, and motivation among team members and others. • Healthier people have less medical expenses, which may decrease health insurance premiums. • Weight loss leads to more energy, increased productivity, and higher self esteem. Added Benefits: • Memorial Hospital and Manor will give free blood screenings to measure cholesterol profile and glucose at the beginning and ending of the competition for those interested. • Free blood pressure, heart rate and body fat measurements will be done at the beginning and ending of the competition for those interested. • Memorial Hospital and Manor will provide a free 1 hour massage for the team and the individual with the highest percentage lost at the end of 6 weeks. • The Bainbridge/Decatur County YMCA will waive the initial membership fee for each Team Lean participant who wants to join during this competition. • Weekly cash drawing for people who weighed in that week. How do teams register? • Form a team of 5 people. (Any individual may join any team) • Choose a unique name. • Attend a kick-off meeting at 7 p.m. on January 25 at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. • Each team member will complete and sign a registration form no later than January 26.
