DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT TAKING ONLINE CLASSES
Dear Strayer University Online Student: Our records indicate that you have registered for Strayer University Online classes. If you are a new student or a returning student to Strayer University Online that did not take a class in the past year, please be sure to review the tutorial on the http://online.strayer.edu web page for the type of class you are taking, synchronous or asynchronous. The tutorials provide an overview of how the online classes operate and the basic functioning of the software we use (HorizonLive, eCollege, and eCompanion). Please complete the tutorial prior to the start of your class. It is highly recommended that all Strayer University Online students review the tutorial each quarter before the beginning of classes; this will keep you aware of any updates or changes. Every Strayer University student is automatically assigned a single Login ID and password. If you have not received your password, you can obtain it by clicking on the DL Login ID icon located on left side of the Online.strayer.edu web page. Remember you must enter your student ID (SS#), your Pin Number (month and year of your birth date, unless you have changed it, only 4 digits) and your home Zip Code. This LoginID will remain the same as long as you are an active student at Strayer University. Strayer University offers two forms of delivery via online. They include the synchronous classes (real time) courses conducted using HorizonLive or the asynchronous classes available 24/7. Attendance is taken in both class formats, synchronous (log into the HorizonLive session at the scheduled time) and asynchronous (access the class web page each week). If you are taking a synchronous class please be sure to run the Horizon Live wizard located on the Strayer University Web page at online.strayer.edu. Before you attend your synchronous class, it is imperative that you run the Wizard on your computer. This will prompt you to download and test the new audio plugin, along with QuickTime plugin that is necessary to view archives. All first time users of Horizon Wimba OpenCampus should run the Wizard in advance of their online class with ample time for troubleshooting if necessary. The Wizard will check your PC to ensure it is ready for HorizonLive class sessions. If you run into any difficulty with the wizard call the Online Campus Tech Support at (800) 422-8055 and get assistance. Also all synchronous classes have a supporting eCompanion class resource page. This page will consist of documentation which may include your class syllabus, additional lecture information and course assignments. Be sure to log into your eCompanion page to obtain your synchronous class information prior to the start of your class.
If you are taking an asynchronous class, please be sure to download Real Player 8 (if not already on your PC). Most of the asynchronous courses will be on web pages built within an eCollege web site which you can access anytime using your assigned Strayer University Online LoginID/password. Students should complete the “Browser Test” under the eCollege Technical Requirements tab on the eCollege login screen (select the Attend Asynchronous Class tab on the Strayer University Online web page). If you run into any difficulty during the Browser Test please call the eCollege Help Desk at 866 448-6703. It is very important for your instructor to be able to reach you by phone and e-mail. Be sure to have current phone numbers in the Strayer University student record database. You can call your home campus business office to update your personal files (name change, address, phone numbers), and they can add your e-mail address into the system. If your home campus is Strayer University Online, please call 1-800-360-1588 or 703-339-1850, and ask them to update your student information. Thanks for your cooperation and we hope you enjoy the convenience of taking your classes online.

You may obtain your password by clicking on the DL login ID icon located on the left side of the online.strayer.edu Web page. You will then need to fill in your student number, which is your social security number, your Strayer PIN, which can be obtained though the Student Services Office, and your Zip code. Another screen will then open up and your login ID and password will be provided. This login ID will remain the same as long as you are an active student at Strayer University.
