Program Title System of Care Programs Community Partnerships
• Planning District 1/Family Functional Therapy (FFT) • Richmond Behavioral Health Authority/MultiSystemic Therapy (MST)
Source of Funding
These programs are funded with state general funds. They began in 2005 as demonstration projects and have a total funding of approximately $1,000,000.
Program Description
These programs provide funding for an evidence based practice (either MST or FFT) to be implemented in a community in order to expand the current system of care available for children and adolescents with mental health treatment needs. These programs specifically target those youth with involvement in the juvenile justice system and provide wraparound community mental health services aimed at keeping youth in less restrictive community placements. This program serves to enhance the screening, assessment and treatment of co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse throughout Virginia’s CSB system with four specific goals: (1) Develop, implement, and standardize screening and assessment protocols statewide for persons with cooccurring disorders through infrastructure development; (2) Identify and implement strategies for data collection and reporting of outcome measures and information on program capacity; (3) Implement a pilot program of services that delivers evidence-based treatment to youths and adults with co-occurring disorders; and (4) Establish a center for excellence in VA to serve as a resource for other providers.
