DESTINATION Telluride is a unique combination of a quaint historic town and a world
              class resort destination.

A former mining town, Telluride is located in the San Juan Range of the
Rocky Mountains in Southwest Colorado. It offers a high-altitude
environment with a variety of natural habitats: tundra, mesas, peaks,
forests and riparian zones. Often described as charming, Telluride was
named a National Historic Landmark in1964 and is renowned as the site of
Butch Cassidy’s first bank heist in 1889.

In 1970’s the town started to draw ski enthusiasts and The Mountain
Village was born. Today, historic Telluride (at 8,750 above sea level) is
joined to the Mountain Village (at 9,750 feet above sea level) by a free
gondola transportation system -- the only one of its kind in North America
              – that transports visitors from alpine village to historic town in just 13
minutes. The incredible vistas and its convenient hours (7 a.m. to
midnight) make the gondola a must-mode of transportation whether
enroute to historic Telluride’s Victorian architecture, clapboard
storefronts, boutiques, art galleries or heading higher up to the European
style Mountain Village with its gourmet restaurants, pubs, golf course,
hiking trails and world class winter slopes.

Telluride is a year round destination that is often described as the more
authentic or organic Aspen. In the winter, it is a Mecca for skiers, while
the summer draws hikers, nature enthusiasts and attendees to one of its
more than 30 summer festivals ranging from the Mushroom festival to the
              renowned Telluride Film Festival.
