Held under the Patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed Bin Fahad Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud,
Governor of the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, SAOGE 2009 - The 2nd Saudi Arabian Oil & Gas
Exhibition & Conference saw a total increase in attendance by 23% from SAOGE 2008. This edition of
SAOGE had seen many more high profile figures including Lord Digby Jones, the former Minister of
Trade and Industry for the UK and Dr Randy Gossen, President of the World Petroleum Council who
had lauded the Kingdom for its efforts, and progress in this industry.
The Saudi Arabia International Oil & Gas Exhibition & Conference (SAOGE), the premier event for the
Eastern Province in Saudi Arabia, was established in 2008 to meet the requirement for the largest oil
producing country in the world to host its own focused oil and gas show. It provides the sole event in
Saudi Arabia for the Oil & Gas industry, and the SAOGE exhibition is supported by a high profile
conference programme, drawing on expertise from around the world, to present and discuss topics
linked to the Oil & Gas Industry.
Following on from the success of the 2008 launch event which gathered 207 companies from 28
countries and 5608 visitors, the attendance for 2009 grew by 23% with 274 companies from around
the world representing 31 countries. The figure for visitors this year also grew with 6,834 industry
representatives visiting the exhibition.

Opening Ceremony
SAOGE 2009 - The 2nd Saudi Arabian Oil & Gas Exhibition & Conference was
officially opened on November 1, 2009 with a high level Opening Ceremony.
Held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed Bin Fahad
bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Inauguration was attended by several senior officials
and industry leaders with speeches given at the Opening Ceremony by:

The Opening Ceremony speeches were followed by the Official Inauguration of the SAOGE 2009
Exhibition, which was conducted by Zareb bin Sa’eed Al Qahtani, Deputy Governor of the Eastern
Province. Mr Al Qahtani was then taken on a tour of the Exhibition Halls together with the Opening
Ceremony officials.
Gala Dinner
The Organisers of SAOGE 2009 IES and DIEC hosted an
impressive outdoor Gala Dinner set by the pool of the Sheraton
Hotel Dammam. Attendees were able to enjoy an evening of
traditional delicacies and entertainment from local dancers and
musicians.
During the Dinner the Exhibition Awards were announced by Piero
Zipoli, President, IES and presented to the winners by Lord Digby
Jones.

Conference & Industry Meets University Programme
The SAOGE 2009 conference set a new format with a 3 day programme, including panel discussions,
technical presentations, a technical poster session and the newly launched Industry Meets University
Initiative. In total over 45 speakers and two universities took part in the discussions and presentations.
Topics covered in the panel discussions were New Ventures & Regional Outlook, Alternative Energy &
Sustainability, New Challenges & Innovative Technologies in Exploration & Production. The Technical
presentations focused on Maintenance & Reservoir Management, Production & Drilling and HSE &
Transportation, whilst two poster sessions presented additional new technologies.
The third day of the Conference was dedicated to the Industry Meets University Programme which was
supported by students from the King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals and the King Faisal
University, College of Engineering and Senior HR Managers from Jubail Energy Services Co (JESCO)
and South Rub Al Khali Co Ltd (SRAK).
Participation in the Programme provided students with great opportunities to network and establish
contacts for their future, through both the exhibition and conference. Students representing their
University Group gave a short presentation and the industry representatives from JESCO (Jubail Energy
Services Co.) and South Rub Al Khali Co Ltd dedicated themselves to address student questions and
provide them with an overview of the career opportunities available in the industry. Whilst one
University Group gave their presentation, the other group was given a tour of the SAOGE 2009
Exhibition providing introductions to key companies present.

SAOGE Arena
2009 saw many new features including the SAOGE Arena, an individual presentation space set within
the Exhibition Hall. This new area provided an interactive presentation area for Exhibition Companies
wishing to showcase their products and services through a short speech and was also the setting for
the Industry Meets University Initiative.
By providing a presentation space that is incorporated within the Exhibition, Visitors wishing to attend
presentations, as well as visit with the exhibiting companies, were able to maximise their time at
SAOGE 2009.
