1        Scope
         Procedure for leakage current testing of isolators.



2        Attention
         THIS EQUIPMENT MUST ONLY BE OPERATED BY TRAINED PERSONNEL.
         ANY FAULT MUST BE REPORTED IMMEDIATELY TO THE QC MANAGER
         AND THE EQUPMENT DISCONNECTED FROM THE POWER SUPPLY.

3        Equipment

         The equipment comprises :-
         TTi 1705 True RMS Programmable Multimeter, QT005,
         Leakage Current Test Chamber, QT001.
         Reference Device ( bespoke )
         Test Device ( device under test, DUT )




         Figure 1- Leakage current test equipment


         A safety switch interlock device is fitted to the lid to switch off power automatically
         should the lid be raised whilst the power button is in the ‘on’ position.

4        Initial Test set-up
         The set-up sequence is indicated in Figure 2 as follows:
                       1
            Ensure switch is off -
                 (position O)            I = On (Light on when connected to power)
            And inspect for any          O = Off (Light off when connected to power)
          obvious signs of damage
              to unit leads etc.

          Plug test unit into the main
                 power supply

              Lift lid and connect       Reference device is always
          reference device in series     connected with the isolated
             Blue lead = power in        connection to the power in
            Black lead = power out

            Plug in the meter and
               switch on power

                 Set meter to
                 mA or µA AC




                      6
                   Close lid

           Switch on leakage tester

           Reference device should
          register current (according
               to device rating)



                                                          SAFETY FIRST

                                                 Lifting the lid will automatically
          Switch off tester by turning
                                            disconnect the power but should not be
            off the power button
                                                 relied upon when connecting /
                                              disconnecting the piece under test.

5        Testing the device
         The reference device is removed from the leakage tester and replaced by the DUT.
         Procedures 6 to 9, shown in the set-up and test sequence in Figure 2 above, are
         repeated and the steady state value held for over 10 seconds is recorded. These
         should be close to the specified values for the DUT.
