Description

The musical works of Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827) are known by various designations, including: by the opus numbers assigned by Beethoven's publishers during his lifetime, e.g. "the Opus 131 String Quartet", by catalogue numbers assigned by later editors to works without opus numbers, e.g. "the Bagatelle in A minor, WoO 59 ('Fr Elise')" (see below for a further explication of these numbers), by genre, in separately numbered groups, e.g. "the Fifth Symphony", by nickname, e.g. "the Kreutzer Sonata". Two overlapping lists of Beethoven's works follow below. The first is a listing of works classified by genre. The second is a more exhaustive list of works, classified by the various numbering systems.
