UNM RETIREES BENEFITS
Below is a list and description of the UNM Benefits currently available to retirees. Please refer to the contact information for each benefit or the UNM Benefits office at 277-MYHR for additional information. All retirees must have an updated Retiree Lobo card if they want to utilize the full range of benefits available. If the retiree Lobo card does not have a swipe on the back, some benefits may not be accessible. To get an updated card, bring the old Lobo card to the Lobo Card Office when notified at the end of the calendar year and it will be replaced free of charge The Lobo Card office is located on the plaza level of the Student Union (SUB) building.

*Subject to reduction if under the age of 60 and accumulated earned service is less than 25 years Alternative Retirement Plan TIAA-CREF VALIC Medical Insurance Defined Contribution Plan available to select UNM Faculty and Professional titles* where the retirement benefit is calculated based on contributions made into the program. *Contact the UNM HR office a complete list of eligible titles Available to retirees who satisfy the following criteria: Can provide proof of coverage by a local group health insurance policy for at least four of the last five years before retirement. Have completed a minimum of 5 consecutive years of service with UNM Were enrolled in one of the UNM Healthcare plans for the last 12 months of employment UNM pays 43% of premium cost at age 65, based on plan selected by retiree and spouse* Under 65: Same insurance program as active employee-no change in premium payment Over 65: Must select a Senior plan from a choice of Lovelace, Presbyterian, or AARP Will be reviewed on an annual basis and may be subject to change. *For Spouses who participated in a retiree’s coverage and the retiree predeceases the spouse, UNM will continue to pay the same premium rates that applied at the time of the retiree’s death for one year after the death of UNM Retiree. Thereafter the Widow pays 100% of the premium.

UNM pays 43% of a slightly higher premium cost, based on plan selected by retiree and spouse *For Spouses who participated in a retiree’s coverage and the retiree predeceases the spouse, UNM will continue to pay the same premium rates that applied at the time of the retiree’s death for one year after the death of UNM Retiree. Thereafter the Widow pays 100% of the premium Life Insurance Available to retirees who satisfy the following criteria: Were enrolled in the life insurance plan at least 12 months prior to retirement Meet the eligibility guidelines for an ERB or ARP retirement benefit Under 65: Same level as coverage you had as an active Employee At/Over 65: Coverage decreases to a $4000.00 benefit Additional insurance available if elected prior to turning 65 for an additional cost. Spousal/Dependent Coverage: Spousal and dependent life insurance coverage terminates at retirement Long-Term Care Insurance UNUM $2000.00 of monthly coverage for 3 years. Available to retirees who satisfy the following criteria: Were enrolled as of the time of retirement. UNM Retirees are eligible for a yearly vehicle parking permit at a reduced rate* allowing parking in any space not designated for handicapped or in a metered or restricted space. A restricted space is defined as a fire zone (red curbs), safety zone (yellow curbs), official vehicle zones, service vehicle zones, loading zones and reserved parking spaces. *Parking fee is capped at a rate of $129 until the 2010-2011 year. **Vehicles displaying a handicapped placard may park in any space without payment, except for restricted spaces. Emeritus retired faculty may be provided office space in their respective departments, depending availability. 20% discount on General Books ONLY with the presentation of a Lobo Retiree card*. *Previously discounted merchandise excluded. Covers the cost of tuition for an unlimited number of courses, including Continuing Education courses. Continuing Education courses-Retirees must present the Lobo Retiree Card at the time of signup/registration. Restrictions include: Same-Day Field Trips-covered to a maximum cost of $65.00. Overnight trips-The average cost of the instructional portion of the program will be covered under tuition remission to a maximum amount of $50. Participant pays additional costs of the trip such as lodging, meals, etc. International trips-If trip is offered for academic credit, the academic credit portion will be itemized and covered under tuition remission Spouse/Domestic Partner-If the retiree does not use any portion of the tuition remission benefit, the spouse or domestic partner may take ONE academic credit course per semester, not to exceed four credit hours. Spouses are not eligible for Continuing Education courses. Dependent Education-Dependents may continue on the Dependent Education program if the dependent was enrolled at the time of retirement. Dependents are eligible for a total of 8 semesters including all semesters before and after the retirement date of the retiree. Retirees may use swimming, gym, weight room, handball, racquetball, tennis, equipment rental, and jogging paths on the campus and participate in UNM organized group activities. Lockers may be rented on an available basis. Retirees may obtain a free or discounted membership at Defined Fitness and NM Sports and Wellness facilities. Check your insurance for covered memberships. Retirees may access the College of Law Clinical Law Program, if certain financial guidelines are met. UNM Retirees maintain all library privileges. Present your Lobo Card with “Banner I.D. Number.” For access to “on-line” services, access must be made from oncampus or branch locations. Retirees may use the CIRT computer facilities including access to the network and e-mail. Must have a user account. Passwords must be changed at least every six months. Retirees receive a 10% discount on all Maxwell Museum gift shop purchases. Retirees get access to all programs at the same cost as an active UNM employee. Retirees may have name listed in Faculty-Staff Directory. $40.00 per semester-classes only*. *Does not include Locker Rental at Johnson Gym Emeritus Faculty may have reserved seats at Commencement and, with appropriate dress, may be seated with faculty.
