HOW TO CREATE YOUR VERY OWN PROFESSIONAL
LOOKING
TRAVEL BOARD GAME
STEP 1: Sketch ideas of what you would like your game to look like.
STEP 2: Create 4-view drawing of game board top, front, side, and 3-D oblique.
Remember the proper format, including your heading
STEP 3: Create a drill template and cut out.
STEP 4: Have sketch and drill template checked off.
STEP 5: Go into lab !!!
STEP 6: Choose what type of wood you would like to use:
ash, oak, birch, alder, mahogany
STEP 7: Tape drill template to wood.
STEP 8: Use awl to mark your holes.
STEP 9: Use combination square to mark your chamfers.
STEP 10: Use drill press to drill your holes.
Use clamp to secure your wood from spinning.
Determine proper drill bit size.
Use chuck key to tighten drill bit in chuck.
REMOVE CHUCK KEY!
Use depth stop to create a consistent hole depth.
STEP 11: Use disc sander to create your chamfers.
Adjust table to 45 degrees.
Place wood flat on the table.
DO NOT PUT WOOD ON RED SIDE OF TABLE!
Lightly push wood into sander, moving it slowly side to side.
o Keep fingers at least two inches away from disc.
STEP 12: Use sand paper to smooth out your wood.
Start with 100 grit until you have removed all the tool marks
Continue with each grit until you get desired texture, going up through
120, 150, 180, and 220. Do not skip any grits.
STEP 13: Apply finish.
Use generous, yet moderate amount of finish.
Apply to entire board.
Wipe away all excess finish.
Let dry.
Apply again, this time use 600 grit sand paper.
Repeat as desired. Be sure to let dry between each coat.
STEP 14: Create rules.
Objective – what is the final goal of the game?
Equipment – what do you need to play?
Set-up – what should the equipment look like before game play begins?
How to play.
Rules – at least 3-5 rules to the game. This is different from how to
play the game.
Diagram – graphic that helps visually show some detail about your
game.
STEP 15: Design box.
Box should have your name and name of game.
Use 7x7 or 7x8 template.
o Recommend using 7x8 unless you created score four.
o 7x8 allows room for game pieces to fit in box.
Use color and graphics to make your box attractive.
STEP 16: Construct box.
Cut exterior of box design.
Cut tabs on the corners.
Fold sides down along the lines.
Use rubber cement to attach corners.
Secure corners with a paper clip to ensure adhesion.
Repeat for bottom of box.
o Remember to fold bottom approx 1/16” smaller so the top and
bottom fit together.
Make sure creases are clean and crisp.
There should be no staples or tape used.
STEP 17: Place all parts inside box.
Make sure everything fits.
STEP 18: ENJOY!!!
Have fun.
You have now created your very own professional looking travel board
game.
