1. What is Vicuni?
VicUni is a wireless network service providing all VU staff and students with valid AD login
credentials to be able to connect to VU’s networking resources, such as the Internet and Email.
VicUni wireless network is available at the following campuses:
St Albans
Sunshine
Werribee
Melton
City Flinders St
City Flinders Lane
City King St
City Queen St
Footscray Nicholson
Footscray Park
2. What do you need to use VicUni?
To connect to Vicuni your computer must have:
♦ Windows Vista.
♦ Valid VU AD Credentials
♦ Functioning Wireless Network Card

and select Protected EAP (PEAP)

Thawte Premium Server CA

domain if any) box, then Click on OK

4. Connecting to the VicUni Wireless network for the first time
4.1. From the Network and Sharing Centre window, click on Connect to a network

4.2. Select VicUni wireless network, then Click on Connect

4.4. Click on Try Connecting to “VicUni” again

4.5. When the Window Network Diagnostics window appear, a window will also appear at
the bottom right corner of the screen (see Window 1)
Note – the above window should disappear once you have successfully connected to
the VicUni wireless network.

4.7. Enter your Victoria University username, password and Domain in the relevant fields,
and click OK
For staff – your AD username is your staff number preceded with an e.
For example, e5000000
For Students – your AD username is your student number preceded with an s.
For example, s3000000

Enter ‘AD’
Click OK
Note, if the balloon in step 4.6 appears after you have entered your username and
password, please re-enter your username and password to try logging in again.
4.8. The system will now attempt to log you into the VicUni wireless network
5. Confirmation of successful connection
If you have successfully connected to the VicUni wireless network, the following window will be
displayed

♦ You are now ready to commence using the wireless network!
♦ This concludes the procedure on how to connect to the VicUni wireless network. You should be
able to access the internet.
♦ If you are unable to connect to the VicUni wireless network, please repeat steps 3.1 – 4.4
6. Reconnecting to VicUni Wireless Network
To connect to the VicUni Wireless network after the first successful attempt
6.1. Open the connect to a network window (steps 4.1 – 4.2)

6.2. Select VicUni and click on the Connect button
7. Helpful hints
If you have problems connecting to the VicUni Wireless Network, try the following:
♦ Repeat steps 3.1 – 4.6 if you have problems connecting to the VicUni Wireless network
♦ Restart your computer If you have experience problems connecting to the VicUni Wireless
network after successful connections previously
♦ Check your wireless network card has been enabled
♦ Ensure the TCP/IP protocol for the wireless network connection is set to obtain an IP
address automatically
