How to configure static IP address with the Thrane FB250/500
This guide shows how to configure your FB terminal for use with the MVS APN in order to get a
static IP address. There are two possible options:
1) static IP with DHCP router mode
2) static IP in bridge mode without NAT
In either case the Network user group TCP/IP setting must be always “Dynamic IP address”!
Before setting up the terminal make sure that the firmware is at least 1.05!
Static IP with DHCP router mode
In this case FB terminal router will assign a dynamic IP address to the PC using DHCP. From the
Internet the PC is visible under the static IP address assigned to the MVS FB SIM card.

Static IP in bridge mode without NAT
The default group cannot be set to bridge mode, therefore it has to be disabled by selecting “No
Internet access”. Also “Automatic activation” must be disabled:
Like this the Default group is disabled.
It is possible to leave the Default group in “Router mode”, in this case all LAN ports except the one
reserved for the static connection can be used for dynamic IP sessions.
Or all MAC addresses except the one reserved for the static connection can be used for dynamic IP
Please consider carefully all implications this setup might have technically and traffic wise!

In the next step we will enable one of the other groups in order to activate the bridge mode:
In this case “Group 0” is selected, it can be any other group at your convenience except the “Default
group”. Please note that also here the TCP/IP is set to “Dynamic IP address”!
Automatic activation must be enabled so the terminal will connect automatically the data session as
soon as the network is available. This is important because the specified LAN port for the bridge
connection will not have an IP address before the connection is enabled, therefore you will not be
able to connect to the FB web interface to initiate the connection!

Finally we can verify the settings in the general network user groups page:
In this case once “Group 0” data session is active the static IP address is available on the PC
connected to the specified LAN port on the FB (or for the specified MAC address).
Please be aware that you cannot connect your PC via a switch or router in this case because NAT

Now we have to route the signal to a specific port on the FB, this is done in the “Network
Click “add” and then enter either the physical LAN port on the FB (1 to 4) or the MCA address of
the connected PC:
In this case the PC must be connected to the LAN4 socket on the FB terminal. Alternatively you can
specify the MAC address of the PC instead of a physical LAN port.

We can then verify the settings:
In this case we confirm that “Group 0” is routed to LAN port 4.
At the automatic initiation of the data session the FB will assign the static IP address to the PC
connected to LAN port4. Therefore the PC must be set on “Obtain an IP address automatically” and
“Obtain DNS server automatically”.
