Characteristics of recovery in cold–worked AMg6 alloy are analysed. A general equation of recov-
ery is obtained taking into account the fact that principal process is the slip of screw dislocations hav-
ing jogs, which is a thermally activated process. This equation improves the modern dislocation mod-
els of recovery during creep. As compared to the Kuhlmann–Cottrell–Aytekin theory, it takes into
account the decrease of the velocity of dislocation motion with σ0,2 approaching the proof stress of
non–deformed material.
On the basis of the general equation of recovery the change of proof stress of cold–worked AMg6
alloy during long–term room–temperature aging is prognosticated. The variant of non–isothermal re-
covery is also considered.
Key words: cold–worked AMg6 alloy, prognosticating, theory of recovery, proof stress.
