Program details for students who commenced prior to Semester 2/2008

Transition arrangements for the revised programs

Students who commenced prior to Semester 2/2008 will be able to continue their studies in the previous
programs. However, they will need to personally attend the campus on which the courses are taught. If
preferred, they may undertake study in the revised programs for Semester 2/2008. Students should
contact the School for any further transitional information and/or advice.

Students who commenced prior to 2006 should contact the School for further information and/or advice.

Degree requirements

To be eligible for the award of Graduate Certificate in Journalism and Mass Communication
(GCertJourMassComm), a student must acquire 40CP as prescribed below:

       successfully complete the 20CP of specified core courses
       successfully complete 20CP of elective courses selected from the prescribed list of elective
        courses.

To be eligible for the award of Graduate Diploma of Journalism and Mass Communication
(GDipJourMassComm), a student must acquire 80CP as prescribed below:

       successfully complete the 40CP of specified core courses
       successfully complete 40CP of elective courses (with a maximum of 20CP for undergraduate
        courses) selected from the prescribed list of elective courses.

Students who wish to progress to the Master of Arts with Honours after the Graduate Diploma must not
include 20CP of undergraduate courses in their Graduate Diploma.

To be eligible for the award of Master of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication (MA), a student
must acquire 100CP as prescribed below:

       successfully complete the 40CP of specified core courses
       successfully complete 40CP of elective courses selected from the prescribed list of elective
        courses
       successfully complete the 20CP Project.

To be eligible for the award of Master of Arts with Honours in Journalism and Mass Communication
(MA), a student must acquire 140CP as prescribed below:

       successfully complete the 40CP of specified core courses
       successfully complete 40CP of elective courses (all postgraduate courses) selected from the
        prescribed list of elective courses
       successfully complete the 20CP Project
       successfully complete the Dissertation Preparation Workshop
       successfully complete the 40CP Dissertation.

Classification of Honours

This degree with Honours can be awarded in the following classes:

         First Class Honours (I)
         Second Class - Division A Honours (IIA)
         Second Class - Division B Honours (IIB)
         Third Class Honours (III)

The class of Honours to be awarded to each student in this degree will be determined by the relevant
Assessment Board on the basis of the Honours Weighted Average (HWA) and the Standard Cut-Offs as
outlined in the Masters Degrees with Honours section of the Policy for the Award of Masters Degrees
other than the Master of Philosophy.
