      Subject:          Request to Schedule a Presentation by Dr. Poki Namkung


      RECOMMENDATIONS:

      Schedule time at the Council meeting of June 17, 2003, after the Public Hearing on 1600
      Shattuck Avenue, for a presentation by our Public Health Officer, Poki Namkung, on the
      health effects of antennas such as those proposed for this site.


      BACKGROUND:

      The Council has been pre-empted by Federal regulations from considering the health
      impacts of wireless communication antennas. Nevertheless, many community members
      are fearful that there may be damaging impacts, and these fears have been exacerbated by
      the many reports circulating about this issue via e-mail and letters. A discussion of these
      issues by our Public Health Officer is needed to help put these reports in perspective. Dr.
      Namkung is well versed in the scientific literature on this subject and can increase our
      understanding of it.
