Ltd., Calgary, Alberta. -2- AUGUST - 1959 A tour was arranged by Shell Oil's Frank Wood of the Jumping Pound Gas Plant for Mobil Oil Canada's Ed Herrmann and Belen-Lynn McGuffy's Jim Belding. A discussion followed in regard to the need for an association of Gas Processing men. SEPTEMBER - 1959 Goliad's Dan McDonald, Pipeline Consultant R.G. Murray Jr., and Mobil Oil Canada's Chas. Yarbrough met to discuss formation of CNGPA. Later talks with other Gas Processing personnel resulted in the first beginnings of CNGPA. SEPTEMBER – 1959 The Supply Men held a series of meetings to launch the CNGPSMA. Some of the Charter Members involved were: Cooper-Bessemer's (the late) Ted van Fossen, Belmac's Jim Belding, Barber Engineering's (the late) Jack Hulburt, Bill McBean, Newman Hender's (the late) Boyce Bryan, StearnsRoger's Jim Carveth, Brown & Root's Bob Newell, Ingersoll-Rand’s Bill Cass, Pipeliner Les Arnett, Alberta Pheonix’s Don Cooke and Steel Craft’s Jim Wolter. NOVEMBER -1959 The Canadian Natural Gasoline Processing Association is in the formative stage. Frank Wood of Shell Oil's Jumping Pound Gas Plant is looking for members. And Cooper-Bessemer's Ted Van Fossen was soliciting members for the CNGPSMA. -3FEBRUARY - 1960 The first scheduled Technical meeting of the CNGPA and the CNGPSMA was held at the Palliser Hotel, Calgary on February 25, 1960. Dan McDonald of Goliad was Program Chairman. Six technical papers were presented to the 130 plus Registrants. President Charlie Yarbrough of Mobil Oil Canada was elected at a prior meeting and presided. Don McEachern of Imperial Oil and Earl Scott of Goliad were on the Executive. MAY - 1960 The CNGPSMA issued a 1960 - 61 Directory which listed the Equipment, Services and materials available to the Gas Industry by its Members. Several hundred copies were issued to Industry personnel. SEPTEMBER - 1960 There was a Joint Technical meeting held at the Palliser Hotel by the CNGPA and the Rocky Mountain Region of the Natural Gasoline Association of America on September 15, 1960. The CNGPSMA hosted a large barbecue and cocktail party at the Lone Pine Supper Club. Some of the Registrant's included the following: SPC's Barry Steuart & Nick Naimish from Regina, Mobil Oil's Ed Herrmann from Edmonton, Shell Oil's Frank Wood, Goliad's Elmo Holder from Drayton Valley, Imperial Oil's Ted Deacon, Bill Sage & Jim Halliburton, Royalite's Ed Davis from Turner Valley, Ron Cannon, etc. A good sized contingent was in attendance from the NGAA. OCTOBER - 1960 Ground was broken on Pan American's Windfall Gas Plant and Jefferson Lake's East Calgary Plant. -4NOVEMBER - 1960 Jim Carveth of Stearns-Roger was elected President of the CNGPSMA for 1961. Engineer Bill McBean and Brown & Root's Bob Newell were elected Vice-Presidents. DECEMBER - 1960 The CNGPA held a dinner meeting early in December. The new President for 1961 was Rolly Lazerte of Texaco Exploration; Vice-President was Dan McDonald of Goliad; Secretary was Honolulu Oil's Charlie Drake; and Treasurer was Canadian Pacific Oil & Gas' Bill Humphreys. Dome Petroleum's Don Wolcott was Membership Chairman. Dues were $5.00 per year. JANUARY - 1961 The CNGPSMA held a social evening on January 26th, at the Calgary Professional Club. Both Associations were well represented. APRIL - 1961 The CNGPA held a day long Sour Gas Technical meeting on April 6th. Over 200 members attended. Some of the Registrants at this meeting included Westcoast Transmission's John Young; Imperial Oil's Herb Cooper; Steelman Gas' Jim Hartley; Goliad's Claude Albert & Les Southwell; Alberta Underground Storage's Jack Barbeau; B.A.Oil's Gordon Barnes; Provo Gas Producer's Joe Burge; and Shell Oil's Ron Watkins. SEPTEMBER - 1961 The CNGPA held a day long Technical Session, its first, in Edmonton on September 29th, at the Mayfair Hotel. Approximately 160 members attended. Some 50 Calgary Gas men traveled to Edmonton on the specially chartered train with the return trip on Friday evening. President Rolly Pipeline -5Lazerte presided. The train trip was organized by Goliad's Dan McDonald; Belmac's Jim Belding; Pan American Oil's Bob Dunham & Brown & Root's Bob Newell. SEPTEMBER- 1961 The CNGPSMA sponsored the 1st Annual Golf Tournament on September 15th at Canyon Meadows Golf Club. Alberta Pheonix's Don Cook,, and Barber Engineering's Sam Mozell handled the arrangements. Fifty Gas men registered for the tournament. NOVEMBER – 1961 The CNGPSA held their annual General Meeting on November 6th, at the Calgary Professional Club. The new executive for 1962 were as follows: President Bob Newell of Brown & Root; 1st VicePresident Amor Galloway of Cessco; 2nd Vice-President was George Garrity of Ladish Company: Treasurer was Murray Campbell of Walworth Valve and Secretary was Dominion Bridge's Neil Richards. FEBRUARY - 1962 A social evening was held by the CNGPA and CNGPSMA at the Calgary Professional Club on February 2, 1962. About 60 couples attended. MAY - 1962 The CNGPA held their Spring Technical meeting at the Palliser Hotel on May 14, 1962. The Association announced that a Gas Plant Operating Manual was being compiled. A sour gas Bibliography was also available at a price of $1.00 per copy through Elmer Berlie, P.O. Box 67, Calgary. -6APRIL - 1962 The NGAA annual convention was held in Denver, Colo., April 25 -27. Twenty local members of the CNGPA attended. SEPTEMBER - 1962 The CNGPA held their fall meeting at the Mayfair Hotel in Edmonton on September 28th. A special train was organized by the Calgary members to attend this meeting. President Dan McDonald was Chairman. A good turnout was on hand. SEPTEMBER - 1962 The second annual Supply Men's Golf Tournament was held at the Canyon Meadows Golf Club in mid-September. Prizes went to Ridge Tool's Ken Barr; Sinclair Oil's John O'Rourke and Alberta Natural Gas' Ian Stuart. Barber Engineering's Sam Mozell handled the arrangements. DECEMBER - 1962 The CNGPA held its winter Technical meeting at the Palliser Hotel on December 4, 1962. President Dan McDonald and Chairman Kevin Milne presented a "Processing Award" to Belmac's Jim Belding. The 1963 CNGPA Executive were elected at this meeting. They are as follows: President was Pan American Oil's Art Denny; Vice-President was Texas Gulf Sulphur's Elmer Berlie; Secretary was Jefferson Lake's Jim Hollicky and Treasurer was Hudson Bay Oil & Gas' Howard Becker. -7JANUARY - 1963 CNGPSMA new Executive for 1963 were elected as follows: President Jim Belding of Belmac Supply; 1st Vice-President Newman Hender's Boyce Bryan; 2nd Vice-President Jim Wolter of Maloney Steelcraft; Secretary was Les Arnett of Arnett & Burgess, and Treasurer Murray Campbell of Walworth Valve. FEBRUARY - 1963 The CNGPA held a day long Technical session at the Palliser Hotel, on February 12, 1963. Shell Oil's Bob Naden was Chairman. FEBRUARY - 1963 The two Associations held a Social Evening at the Calgary Professional Club on February 15th. Sixty couples were in attendance. MARCH - 1963 The CNGPSMA and the Petroleum Oil Buyers Group held a debate at the Calgary Professional Club, on March 14th. The Moderator was Goliad's Dan McDonald. The Supply Men were represented by Honeywell Control's Phil Meis; Stearns-Roger's Jim Carveth, and Oil Equipment's Don Fairburn. APRIL - 1963 Plans were underway by the CNGPA to sponsor a Gas Compressor School in Edmonton. MAY - 1963 CNGPA held a day long Technical session in Edmonton on May 31st, at the Mayfair Hotel. A special train was chartered for the Calgary group. -8JULY - 1963 The Safety Committee for the CNGPA under Chairman Shaun McGeehee of California Standard Oil reported that after six months of operation, 14 Gas Plants had a perfect record with no lost time for accidents. SEPTEMBER - 1963 The CNGPA Technical Meeting was held on September 14th, at the Palliser Hotel. Papers were presented by Saratoga's Don Duguid; Haddin Davis & Brown's Bob Newell. SEPTEMBER - 1963 The CNGPSMA annual Golf Tournament was held at Canyon Meadows Golf Club. Frank Cloverdale of Hudson Bay Oil & Gas was winner of the special prize - an old clunker of a car. Texas Gulf Sulphur's Elmer Berlie was emcee for the evening awards. DECEMBER -1963 The December CNGPA meeting was held at the Palliser Hotel on the 5th. Pan American's Art Denny chaired the meeting. The new Executive for 1964 was: President Elmer Berlie of Texas Gulf Sulphur; Vice-President was Kevin Milne of Home Oil; Pan American Oil's Ron Nichol; B.A. Oil's Howard Gynn; Imperial Oil's Bill Sage & John Nodwell, and Canadian Fina Oil's Bernie Coady were elected as Directors. FEBRUARY - 1964 The CNGPA held their Technical Meeting at the Palliser Hotel on February 27th. The Supply Men held their annual meeting on February 6th, and elected the following Executive: President Harry Newman of Cooper-Bessemer; 1st Vice-President was John McMillan of Shaw Pipe Protection; 2nd -9Vice-President was Bob Smith of Travis Chemicals; Secretary was Ted Copke of Ladish Company and Treasurer was Jim Wolters of Maloney Steelcrafts, The CNGPA heard papers given by Canadian Western's Al Whitehead; Home Oil's Howard Geddes; Shell Development's Dr. C.L. Dunn; TransCanada Pipeline's Gene Holstead. The luncheon speaker was Dr. George Govier of the Oil & Gas Conservation Board. MAY - 1964 The spring meeting of the CNGPA was held in Edmonton at the Mayfair Hotel on May 28th. President Elmer Berlie was in the chair. Papers were presented by Imperial Oil's Stu Mason; Travis Chemicals' Bob Smith; Socony-Mobil's Will Donahue and John Hunt; and a panel in the afternoon discussed Gas Turbines. SEPTEMBER - 1964 The CNGPA held a Technical meeting at the Palliser hotel on September 11th. Papers were presented by Westcoast Transmission's Don Duguid; Alberta & Southern's Lee Hurd; Shell Oil's Ralph Archibald; Cominco's J.A. Swift, and the luncheon speaker was Henry Besson, President of the Natural Gas Processing Association of America. A panel discussed Sulphur Plant Stack Maintenance in the afternoon. SEPTEMBER - 1964 The 4th Annual CNGPSMA Golf Tournament was held at Canyon Meadows Golf Club on September 10th. Sam Mozell of Barber Engineering was in charge of arrangements. - 10 SEPTEMBER - 1964 A CNGPA Committee was organized to establish the proposed Gas Compressor School. Members included Goliad's Pat Belliveau; Shell Oil's Bob Naden; Belmac's Jim Belding; CooperBessemer's Ted van Fossen; Pan American Oil's Lew Cameron; Home Oil's Howard Geddes, and Ingersoll Rand's Bill Wiseman. DECEMBER - 1964 The CNGPA held a Technical Meeting at the Palliser Hotel on December 3rd. The Supply Men hosted a Dinner dance at the Lone Pine Supper Club in the evening. DECEMBER - 1964 CNGPA Chairman Ralph Archibald of Shell Oil, presented the Annual Safety Awards to the following Gas Plants: Trophies:- Pacific Petroleum's McMahon Plant; Home Oil's Carstairs Plant and Shell Oil's Worsely Plant. Plaques:- were presented to Pan American's Whitecourt Plant; Cal Standard's Princess, and Nevis Plants; Can. Industrial's St. Albert Plant; Saritoga Processing's Coleman Plant; B.A. Oil's Nevis Plant; Shell Oil's Innisfail Plant; Texas Gulf's Okotoks Plant & Socony Mobil Oil's Carson Creek Plant. FEBRUARY - 1965 The CNGPA held a Technical Meeting at the Palliser Hotel on February 21st. Papers were presented by Imperial Oil's Jim Caverhill; Dome Petroleum's Gale Stitt; Canadian Western's Stu Gell; and James Equipment's Jim McArthur. - 11 APRIL - 1965 The CNGPSMA and the Petroleum Oil Buyers Group held a joint meeting at the 400 Club on April 29th. JUNE - 1965 The CNGPA held a Technical Meeting at the Caravan Motor Hotel in Edmonton, on June 11th. SEPTEMBER - 1965 The CNGPA held a Technical meeting at the Calgary Inn on September 17th. Gas Processing Techniques were discussed by a panel consisting of Shell Oil's Frank Wood; Texas Gulf Sulphur's Elmer Berlie; Delta Engineering's Bernie Coady; Pan American Oil's Howard Grekel; B.A. Oil's John Martin and Jefferson Lake's Jim Leeper. SEPTEMBER - 1965 The Supply Men hosted the 5th annual Golf Tournament at the Canyon Meadows Golf Club on September 16th. DECEMBER - 1965 The CNGPA held a day long Technical meeting at the Palliser Hotel on December 3rd. Chairman was Imperial Oil's John Nodwell. The Supply Men sponsored a dinner dance at the Canyon Meadow Golf Club in the evening. Home Oil's Howard Geddes announced that the publication Gas Technology Notes were now available. - 12 FEBRUARY - 1966 The CNGPA held a Technical Meeting at the Calgary Inn on February 25th. The Executive for the 1966 year are as follows: President Earl Scott of Goliad Oil & Gas; Vice-President Ron Nichols of Pan American Oil; Secretary Don Sargeant of Chevron Standard; Treasurer Art Kowalchuk of B.A. Oil. Directors included: John Beddome of B.A. Oil; B.D. Garrison of Canadian Superior Oil; Howard Geddes of Home Oil; Jim Halliburton of Imperial Oil; Bernie Hannah of Hudson Bay Oil & Gas; Jay Johnson of Socony Mobil; Jim McKay of Texaco Exploration; Bob Naden of Shell Oil; and Ed Plum of Texas Gulf Sulphur. JUNE - 1966 The CNGPA held a Technical meeting at the Edmonton Inn on Friday June 3rd. The CNGPSMA sponsored a Hospitality suite on June 2nd, preceding the meeting. SEPTEMBER - 1966 The CNGPA held a Technical meeting at the Calgary Inn on September 17th . DECEMBER - 1966 The CNGPA held a Technical meeting at the Calgary Inn on December 2nd. Special Merit Awards were presented to Imperial Oil's Bill Sage and Belmac's Jim Belding, by President Earl Scott. FEBRUARY - 1967 The CNGPA held a Technical meeting at the Calgary Inn on February 11th. New elected as President was Chevron Standard's Don Sargeant for the 1967 year. CNGPSMA President for 1967 was Delaval's Ray Junkey. - 13 JUNE - 1967 The CNGPA held a Technical meeting on June 3rd at the Chateau Lacombe Hotel. Opposition Leader, Peter Lougheed was the luncheon Speaker. Over 225 attended the meeting. SEPTEMBER - 1967 The September Technical meeting of the CNGPA was held at the Calgary Inn on September 21st. The CNGPA and CNGPSMA enters the 10th year of organized association in the Fall of 1967. JANUARY - 1968 The Supply Men elected a new Board of Directors for 1968. President was V.C. McRae of Travis Chemicals; Vice-Presidents were John Tresp and Bill Laurenchen. Secretary was Peter Finch, and the Treasurer was Harry Neuman. The Directors included Angus Leitch, Ron Towell, Jim Stewart, Don Cameron, Ted Cooke, Mike Burrows, Kevin Milne, Norm Brown and Sam Mozell. FEBRUARY - 1968 The CNGPA elected a new Executive for 1968. They are as follows: Andy Younger President, and Directors included Pan American Oil's Frank Matthews; B.A. Oil's Bill Masson; Imperial Oil's Doug Howell; Chevron Standard's Wayne Newhouse; CIGOL's Fred Brooks, and Mobil Oil's Tony Sterner. MAY - 1968 The Spring meeting of the CNGPA was held in conjunction with the Southex National Petroleum Show. Over 300 industry personnel attended. - 14 NOVEMBER - 1968 The CNGPA held its last quarterly meeting at the Calgary Inn on November 29th. Safety Awards were presented to the Home Oil's Carstairs Plant; HBOG's Edson Plant; and Amerada's Olds Plant. The Supply men hosted a dinner dance that evening at the Lone Pine Supper Club. The CNGPA reported 371 paid=up members for 1968. The CNGPSMA reported 88 paid up company members for the year. JANUARY - 1969 The CNGPSMA elected its new Executive for 1969. President was Sam Mozell of Barber Engineering, Vice-Presidents were Norm Brown of Chittom Equipment and Les Spalding of StearnsRoger. Secretary was Jim Stewart of Ajax Iron Works. Delaney. FEBRUARY - 1969 The CNGPA new Executive for 1969 included Canadian Fina's Clayton Edgelow as President; Home Oil's Murray Ross as Vice-President, CPOG's Owen Wright as Secretary, and Gulf Oil's Ralph Clarke was Treasurer. Directors included Shell Canada's Imperial Oil's Doug Howell; Dome Petroleum's Art Corrigan; HBOG’s Aki Masuda; Banff Oil's Lou Cameron; Pan American Oil's Frank Matthews; Pacific Petroleum's Dave Wylie; and Shell Canada's Ralph Archibald. MAY - 1969 The second quarterly meeting of the CNGPA was held at the Chateau Lacombe in Edmonton on May 30th. Imperial Oil's Jim Halliburton was appointed to the CNGPA's Research Fund. Treasurer was Cooper-Bessemer's Jim - 15 SEPTEMBER - 1969 The Supply Men beat the Processors at the annual Golf Tournament held at Canyon Meadows on September 18th. Some of the winners included Harrison & Crossfield's Ray Goddard; Banff Oil's John Martin; Fish International's Roy Sorrenti and Consultant Kevin Milne. Barber Engineering's Sam Mozell was in charge of arrangements and also acted as Master of Ceremonies. DECEMBER - 1969 This meeting of the CNGPA on December 12th, 1969 celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the Association. Chairman for the meeting was Jim Belding of Belmac Supply Co. The attendance at the meeting topped 250. Papers were presented by Gas Consultant Jim Richardson; University of Calgary's Dr. Khalid Aziz and Spartan Control's Nip Guest. That evening the Supply Men sponsored a Christmas party at the Agricultural Building Stampede Grounds. Hosts included Barber Engineering's Sam Mozell; Stearns-Roger's Les Spalding; and Trachea’s Doug Fraser. Over 400 attended. FEBRUARY - 1970 The Supply Men elected a new Board of Directors for 1970. New President was Les Spalding of Stearns-Roger; Vice-Presidents were Stan Rowan of Rockwell Mfg. Co., and Del Henderson of B.S.& B, Secretary was Doug Fraser of Trachea; and Treasurer was Frank King of Ralph M. Parsons Co. Directors included Gerry Albers of Barber Engineering; Hugh Banks of Mon Max Services; Carl Cedarburg of Northern Engine; Lynn Duckworth of Delta Projects; George Sears of Petro Equipment; Ken Girdling of Canadian Phoenix; Nip Guest of Spartan Controls; John Shultz of Delta Projects; Ken McRae of Travchem and Past President Sam Mozell. Murray Ross of Home Oil is Honorary Director. - 16 MARCH - 1970 The Annual NGPA Convention was held in Denver March 17-19. Some CNGPA members that attended were Home Oil's Murray Ross; and Ron Watkins; Banff Oil's Lou Cameron; Fish Engineering's Roy Sorrenti; Pan West Engineering's Ted Preece; Tenneco's Ken McRae; StearnsRoger's Red Garrett and Goliad's Earl Scott and Dan McDonald. MAY - 1970 The CNGPA Technical Meeting was held on May 8th at the Calgary Inn in conjunction with the National Petroleum Show, May 5 - 8th. SEPTEMBER - 1970 A Joint CNGPA Technical meeting and the Supply Men's Golf Tournament was held for the first time at the Banff Springs Hotel September 17 and 18. Chairmen were Gulf Canada's Ralph Clark, and Travchem's Doug Fraser. NOVEMBER - 1970 The Fall CNGPA Technical meeting was held on November 20th at the Calgary Inn. MARCH - 1971 The Spring CNGPA Technical meeting was held at the Palliser Hotel on Friday March 5th. FEBRUARY - 1971 The Supply Men's new Executive for 1971 included: President Stan Rowan of Rockwell Mfg. Co., Vice-Presidents were Del Henderson of B.S.& B., and Doug Fairburn of Van Waters & Rogers; Secretary was Manley Frith of National Tank; and Treasurer was Frank King of Ralph M. Parsons Co. - 17 FRIDAY, JUNE 11, 1971 Chateau Lacombe, Edmonton - Technical library being set-up. CNGPA will have a member attend NGPA Technical Steering Committee meeting and vice versa.
