Essential Question
How can I create a custom search engine that will help my students conduct research on the
internet?



Product
In this workshop, participants will learn how to create a customized web search engine using
Google. A customized search engine will help students research an assigned topic by narrowing
the range of results. Participants will learn how to include/exclude specific sites and specify
keywords that will facilitate the search process. Once the custom search engine has been built,
participants simply provide the URL to their students.



Evaluation
Assessment of this training will be determined by a review by your facilitator (Media or Technology
Specialist), to determine successful completion of ALL homework and follow-up assignments.



Prerequisites
Participants should have mastered basic computer skills, such as using the mouse and keyboard
and opening and closing applications. Participants should also know how to conduct basic internet
searches. It will be helpful to have in mind a specific research topic that can be used for this
activity.



Step By Step
There are no directions or resources to download. This activity involves completing the Google
Custom Search Workshop in Atomic Learning

1. Using your computer, open your internet browser.

2. Type in the URL address http://mind.pasco.k12.fl.us

3. Select Atomic Learning from the district online resources.

4. Select MY ACCOUNT to log in to Atomic Learning.

5. Type in your user ID: grouperID@pasco
(for example: jsmith@pasco)

6. Type in the password: pasco
7. Select RESOURCES menu.

8. Select WORKSHOPS

9. Navigate to Google Custom Search Workshop

10. Click the title to access the tutorials.

11. Complete the tutorials to complete the training.
