Kontiki Adds Support for VeriSign and Adobe Technology to Provide Advanced Security and
Delivery of Enterprise Video and Documents
Kontiki DMS 2.0 Extends Encryption and Control of Company Information to PC Desktops
October 7, 2002—Sunnyvale, CA—Kontiki announced today that it has added support for new security
technology from VeriSign, Inc., the leading provider of digital trust services and Adobe Systems, Inc.,
the leader in network publishing. Kontiki’s enterprise software now provides customers with added
security in the automated delivery of enterprise video and documents to global audiences.
Kontiki provides enterprises with a Delivery Management System (DMS) to publish, secure, deliver
and measure the effectiveness of digital video and documents. It addresses two of the crucial issues
facing businesses today – the critical need for secure delivery of sensitive corporate information to
employees, business partners and customers, and the need to maximize investment in existing
enterprise networks. With Kontiki software, companies can easily equip their existing networks to
securely and automatically deliver advanced digital media, such as training videos, product launch
presentations and customer support videos, without complicated integration and cost for IT or
hassles for users.
Kontiki said the new solution addresses one of the major risks faced by corporations today -- namely
the protection of information once it arrives on the PC desktop. Kontiki's advanced security
automatically encrypts targeted videos and documents on the users’ PC hard drive, with access
allowed only with proper permissions. Similarly, it won’t allow unauthorized forwarding or printing.
Kontiki’s enterprise software fully integrates with existing security infrastructures and secures all
forms of digital media, including videos and documents.
Kontiki announced its advanced security capabilities in conjunction with the launch of the VeriSign’s
Access Management Service, or AMS (see separate release issued today by VeriSign, Inc.), which is
operated by VeriSign and based on IBM Tivoli Access Manager. Kontiki’s Delivery Management
System will be one of the first Web services solutions available to utilize the security features of
VeriSign AMS, offering enterprises single sign-on and centralized administration of users, groups,
and access policies across multiple applications and resources. The Kontiki Network Connector
supporting VeriSign’s AMS is available today.
Kontiki also said it now provides all customers with industrial-strength, enterprise-wide protection
for distribution of the world’s most widely used corporate document format – Adobe Acrobat PDF
files. Working with Adobe, Kontiki has augmented Adobe’s already tight security with end-to-end
control and protection whenever a PDF document is sent via the Kontiki DMS, preventing
unauthorized users from receiving PDF documents, restricting the copying and printing of sensitive
documents and providing fine control of delivery rules.
“By supporting cutting edge technologies from the world’s leaders in Internet security and network
publishing, we are able to offer customers an unprecedented level of security in delivering
information electronically – implemented right on their existing corporate networks,” said Mike
Homer, Kontiki’s chairman and CEO. “Companies can install this software instantly, with a click of a
button, and give their employees secure access to the information they need to be effective in their
Kontiki uses extensive support for Web services standards, allowing interconnections between the
Kontiki Delivery Management System and other products utilizing XML security standards including
XML Key Management Specifications (XKMS) and Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP).
“This breakthrough in security is based on a unique, fully distributed Web services architecture which
enables us to enforce document security at the desktop, both inside and outside the corporate
firewall,” Homer continued. “By using XML standards and VeriSign’s AMS for user authentication,
authorization, and management, IT managers realize a single point of control for access to digital
media and documents over the intranet, extranet, and Internet.”

Incorporated into the Kontiki DMS is the company’s patent pending XML Delivery Security (XDS)
technology that provides industrial strength protection that starts at the origin server and extends
through the delivery across the Internet and on to the PC desktop. Among other things, it uses
standard Digital Rights Management technology to restrict unauthorized redistribution, control
access and obscure files on the desktop. On the network, it provides point-to-point content encryption
and digital signatures to prevent data corruption and unauthorized publishing.
Kontiki provides a secure managed delivery solution for enterprises. Kontiki's software modernizes
existing enterprise networks with advanced security and delivery of enterprise video and documents.
Its patent-pending technologies utilize the untapped bandwidth of networked PCs, resulting in
