A Brief History of STM
• The Taiwanese Journal for Philosophy and History of Science • Started in 1993 and ran for 10 issues • An English journal published by Yuan-liu (遠 流) Publishing House • Fu, Daiwie 傅大為 was for sometime the editor-in-chief
A Brief History of STM
• In 1999 The Taiwanese Journal for Philosophy and History of Science was split in two journals (philosophy and STS). • The Taiwanese Journal for Studies of Science, Technology and Medicine (or the STM,科 技‧醫療與社會 )was founded in 2001.

• STM: A bilingual journal for the interdisciplinary studies of science, technology and medicine from the Taiwanese or the EastAsian perspective • Published twice a year (April and October) by the National Science and Technology Museum (國立科學工藝博物館)

• Special interests
– how the Taiwanese and Chinese understand and control Nature – how they build their scientific, technological and medical systems
A Brief History of STM
– how Western systems of knowledge and practice have been transferred to Taiwan and China, and vice versa
– and how the Taiwanese and Chinese deal with STM-related issues in their culturally and historically specific contexts
• Yet related articles on other countries are also welcome

The constitution of the current editorial board
• Historians and sociologists outnumber the others • In addition, we have scholars from the fields of philosophy of science, science education, social studies of risk, and public health • Nevertheless, the constitution doesn’t exactly represent the complicated and dynamic structure of the STS community in Taiwan
