List of Reading and English Activities English Language Arts Comprehensive Curriculum Grade 8 Introduction
This document serves as a guide for using activities found in the middle school courses of the Comprehensive Curriculum in schools that traditionally teach English language arts using separate courses for Reading and English. The guide reflects the writers’ suggestions for dividing the activities based on the focus and intent of each activity. The use of the guide is not mandatory. Coding Key Reading English
A check in the Reading column indicates that the activity is recommended for use in the Reading course. A check in the English column indicates that the activity is recommended for use in an English course. Recite Recite original Phrases in the Reading and English columns known works indicate that the activity should be shared works with the phrases designating the parts of the activity that would be used in each course. The comment section is used to clarify the reason for assignment of an activity to a particular course or to provide additional information.
Note the number activities assigned to each course varies by units and is not indicative of the time needed for implementation. Some activities can be done quickly, while others require the use of introductory lessons which will require more time.
