Not just a response to need: Introducing Stewardship

Quite often, our giving of time, money and other resources is a response to some need. However,
this is not the only basis for giving, and can lead us open to give only to the needs that tug
hardest on our heart strings. However, the Bible demonstrates that giving should principally be a
response to God. It is part of our worship and surrender to Him.

God has already shown us what our giving should be like. God’s giving was generous,
undeserved and sacrificial (John 3:16). Our giving should be likewise. It starts with a recognition
that everything we have comes from God. This understanding results in good stewardship of all
that we have, and not just our money.

As an organisation, Stewardship aims to help individual Christians, churches and Christian
organisations. We particularly want to help in the understanding and practice of biblical principles
of stewardship – we see stewardship as an integral aspect of discipleship and spiritual growth,
and not just as a response to financial need.

There are three ways in which we do this. The first reflects our aim to transform Christian Giving.
Our range of Sovereign Accounts are high quality, tax effective services that maximise the
effectiveness of Christian giving, benefiting donors and recipients including churches, charities,
Bible College students and those who raise their own support for Christian ministry.

We also provide a range of legal, financial and property services to churches and charities. The
aim here is to lift some of the burdens and help them achieve high standards in their legal and
financial administration.

The third is Stewardship Money where we are passionate about seeing individuals released from
the burden of debt and money anxiety. We want to see churches meeting the pastoral needs of
their people and reaching out into their local communities around money matters. Money is a
discipleship issue, not just a response to a financial need and we are encouraged that churches
are very positive about the training we deliver. The phrase finding financial freedom captures the
purpose and passion of Stewardship Money. This fully supports the Stewardship vision of lives
transformed and churches abundantly resourced by generous giving.” This work is supported by
220 volunteers in the UK.
