The first computer
The first computer ever produced was produced 1946.
This computer was a vacuum-tube based computer
Many universities helped in the effort to advance these computers so that the military could benefit from them.
Computer History
1954-general electric is the first co. to order a computer 1955-IBM’s first commercial computer is sold/ computers are used in aircraft and in weapons control in the cold war. 1958-National Defense Education Act sent money to schools to help in computer education./ Computers are still not widely accepted into schools yet. 1962/63-Airlines begin to use computerized reservation systems./ computers are beginning to be accepted in some schools across the U.S.
1967-School vocational training programs begin to include computer maintenance. 1970- mainframes and minicomputers in use in some schools, but very little use in the delivery of instruction. 1971 - Intel's first microprocessor developed; the first microcomputers (PCs) are developed; mainframes and minicomputers are in wide use in business; a few software companies begin to develop mainframe and minicomputer- based instructional programs 1975 - Some PCs are donated to schools; some schools have adopted mainframes and minicomputers and refuse to consider PCs 1976-the Apple computer starts to gain popularity in small businesses
1979-only 15 million PC’s are in use the U.S. 1981- a television type screen is created for PC’s 1984-1987- there are still relatively few computers in classrooms/computer-based tutorials and learning games are developed by commercial software manufacturers/25 % of high schools use PCs for college and career guidance 1988- 60% of the U.S. work force uses a computer /laptops are developed!!
Modern Day Computer Knowledge
1990- CD-Rom’s were introduced to run programs and games. 1994-Almost every classroom in the U.S. has a PC available for learning purposes. 1995- Internet and the world wide web began to catch on around the world The computer world has not changed much since then except for quality standards, but for the future?????????
