PRESENTATION .A.S.A. position Our countries Our services TECHNOLOGIES DEVELOPMENT 1. Strain of bacteria 2. Alternative fuel 3. Elastic cover layer DEVELOPMENT OF SPECIAL TECHNOLOGIES Isolation of a strain of bacteria suitable for degradation of polyaromatic hydrocarbons In 1999 task for .A.S.A. – to decontaminate 200 000 tons of soil contaminated with creosol oil and polyaromatic hydrocarbons Cooperation with MikroChem LKT, Czech Academy of Sciences and Institute of Chemical Technology Specially developed biodegradation technology The principle of the technology: to apply a strain of bacteria with appropriate degradation ability which is isolated from contaminated material obtained from the locality to be decontaminated The technology is used mainly for biodegradation of: petroleum products phenols aromatic hydrocarbons selected polyaromatic hydrocarbons SUMMARY THE END OF PRESENTATION February, 2006 .A.S.A. PRESENTATION .A.S.A. position Our countries Our services TECHNOLOGIES DEVELOPMENT 1. Strain of bacteria 2. Alternative fuel 3. Elastic cover layer DEVELOPMENT OF SPECIAL TECHNOLOGIES Isolation of a strain of bacteria suitable for degradation of polyaromatic hydrocarbons II SUMMARY THE END OF PRESENTATION February, 2006 .A.S.A. PRESENTATION .A.S.A. position Our countries Our services TECHNOLOGIES DEVELOPMENT 1. Strain of bacteria 2. Alternative fuel 3. Elastic cover layer DEVELOPMENT OF SPECIAL TECHNOLOGIES Isolation of a strain of bacteria suitable for degradation of polyaromatic hydrocarbons III The process of developing this technology can be divided into the following steps: Theoretical preparation Analysing the material Isolating suitable strains on the contaminated locality Laboratory experiments Pilot tests Approval process – Ministry of Health, National Institute of Public Health, Chief Public health Officer Operating tests Setting in operation – the actual decontamination SUMMARY THE END OF PRESENTATION .A.S.A. has decontaminated 200 000 tons of soil contaminated by PAH up to now. Decontaminated soil was used for the production of certified reclamation material. February, 2006 .A.S.A. PRESENTATION .A.S.A. position Our countries Our services TECHNOLOGIES DEVELOPMENT 1. Strain of bacteria 2. Alternative fuel 3. Elastic cover layer DEVELOPMENT OF SPECIAL TECHNOLOGIES Patent protected technology of acid sludge reprocessing into the alternative fuel In 1999 task for .A.S.A. – to come up with technology suitable for waste disposal originating from the acid refining process of mineral oils deposited in a sludge lagoons The company .A.S.A. developed unique and patent protected technology, in which the hazardous waste, that was not allowed to be disposed even in a hazardous waste landfill, was reprocessed into the alternative fuel SUMMARY THE END OF PRESENTATION February, 2006 .A.S.A. PRESENTATION .A.S.A. position Our countries Our services TECHNOLOGIES DEVELOPMENT 1. Strain of bacteria 2. Alternative fuel 3. Elastic cover layer DEVELOPMENT OF SPECIAL TECHNOLOGIES Patent protected technology of acid sludge reprocessing into the alternative fuel The principle of the technology: mixing of the sludge with the brown coal dust and the lime The mixing of the sludge is performed in the special mixing machinery, which is computer controlled SUMMARY THE END OF PRESENTATION February, 2006 .A.S.A. PRESENTATION .A.S.A. position Our countries Our services TECHNOLOGIES DEVELOPMENT 1. Strain of bacteria 2. Alternative fuel 3. Elastic cover layer DEVELOPMENT OF SPECIAL TECHNOLOGIES Patent protected technology of acid sludge reprocessing into the alternative fuel The output material is certified alternative powder fuel called KORMUL, which can be incinerated in thermal power plants designed with a desulphurisation system or in cement factories The fuel produced in the above methods does not result in a higher environmental load during its incineration than when burning standard fuels. Up to now .A.S.A. has reprocessed 68 800 tons of the sludge and produced 107 000 tons of the alternative fuel, which was utilized in cement factories SUMMARY THE END OF PRESENTATION February, 2006 .A.S.A. PRESENTATION .A.S.A. position Our countries Our services TECHNOLOGIES DEVELOPMENT 1. Strain of bacteria 2. Alternative fuel 3. Elastic cover layer DEVELOPMENT OF SPECIAL TECHNOLOGIES Cover layer technology used in the reclamation of thixotropic sludge lagoons .A.S.A. owns a patent for the composition of an elastic layer which allows sludge lagoons with semi-liquid to liquid content of the deposited material to be decontaminated and reclaimed The principle of patent protected technology: construction of an elastic layer formed by alternating layers of whole tyres and layers of shredded tyres interlaid with reclaiming materials of an earthy character Technology was tested and verified on a real project of covering a 25 m deep sludge lagoon containing thixotropic sludge in the form of bridging over the sludge lagoon SUMMARY THE END OF PRESENTATION February, 2006 .A.S.A.
