POWERPOINT PRESENTATION CONTEST
OBJECTIVE The objective of the PowerPoint presentation contest is for 4-H members to demonstrate the skills necessary to develop and present a PowerPoint presentation in a professional manner. 4-H members who participate in this contest should develop and demonstrate public speaking skills using a PowerPoint presentation as an illustration to add emphasis to their presentation. The PowerPoint program is not meant to be the members’ presentation; it is designed to add dimension and illustration to the members’ public speaking presentation. 4-H members are expected to design and create their own PowerPoint presentation. ELIGIBILITY 1. Any 4-H Roundup Delegate may enter this contest. 2. Categories will be broken down by age if numbers warrant (generally more than 10). Preregistration is required as final age breakdowns will be set up from pre-registration numbers. The Power Point category number must be noted on registration form. Missing numbers will delay processing. 3. Presentations entered in the PowerPoint categories will be judged against other PowerPoint presentations on similar topics. 4. Presentations using PowerPoint as a medium for illustration can only be presented in the PowerPoint categories. 5. Presentations should have been previously presented at a county or district contest or for a local organization before competing at State 4-H Roundup. CATEGORIES The following five categories will be used for dividing youth presenting PowerPoint presentations. All presentations using PowerPoint are required to enter one of the following categories. Categories will be divided by age if there are more than ten contestants pre-registered for any contest. Category # 01 Animal Science (includes Beef, Dairy, Goats, Horse, Swine, Sheep, Poultry, Vet Science, Small Animals, and Meats). 02 Plant, Natural, and Mechanical Sciences (includes Agronomy, Horticulture, Entomology, Wildlife, Forestry, Environment, Natural Resources, Camping, Shooting Sports, Rocketry, Bicycle, Electric, Woodwork, and Petroleum Power). 03 Water Protection, Conservation and Usage 04 Foods and Nutrition must incorporate some aspect of food safety or nutrition (includes Dairy Foods, Breads, Preservation, Nutrition, Health, and Food Safety). 05 Family, Consumer, and Social Sciences (includes Childcare, Fabrics & Fashions, Safety, Consumer Education, Health & Fitness, Citizenship, Leadership, Government, and Community Service). 06 Communication and Visual Arts and all other topics (includes Photography, Speaking, Recreation, Arts and Crafts, and Performing Arts).

REQUIREMENTS 1. Presentation should be on a 3 ½” diskette, memory stick or CD. No Zip™ disk or zipped files should be used as it may not be compatible with equipment. 2. Participants should bring two copies of their presentation as a handout with six slides per page. These handouts will be for the contest judge’s benefit (especially, incase of equipment compatibility problems). 3. Presentation should be 5-7 minutes in length. 4. Presentation must have been created by the contestant. 5. Participants will be expected to load and run their own disk. 6. No teams. Individual presentations only. 7. Foods and Nutrition (includes Dairy Foods, Breads, Preservation, Nutrition, Health, and Food Safety) Illustrated Presentations: All 4-H'ers giving these presentations must bring all needed equipment with them, whether it is a small spoon or a large tray. The room must be shared with others -- flexibility, cooperation, and a helping hand attitude is expected of all delegates. Kitchen will not be available for advance preparation. Keep this in mind when selecting topics for presentations. 8. Firearms used in presentations must be kept in cases and checked in with Campus Security immediately upon arriving on campus. Arrangements can be made to pick them up for the presentation. 9. The use of live animals is discouraged, if live animals will be used, the Extension Educator or contestant must make arrangements to have the animal housed at the Small Animal Clinic or a local veterinary hospital. Animals cannot be housed in residence halls!! JUDGING CRITERIA 1. The speech/illustrated presentation score sheet will be used in evaluating PowerPoint Presentation contest. 2. The judges will assess a penalty for speaking over or under time. A 5-point penalty will be imposed for each full minute over or under the time limit. 3. Two judges will evaluate each presentation if at all possible. EQUIPMENT PROVIDED 1. A computer and projector will be provided for this contest. 2. The computer will be loaded with the current version of PowerPoint commonly used at Oklahoma State University. Other presentation programs will not be provided or allowed.
