9-3 CONTENTS BIOGRAPHY OF KATHERINE SCHWEIKER ✮BIOGRAPHY OF KATHERINE SCHWEIKER KATHERINE SCHWEIKER As wife of Lieutenant Governor Mark Schweiker and a mother of three, Kathy Schweiker devotes herself to many family issues including community service, cancer prevention and awareness, child safety and family literacy. A spokesperson for the American Cancer Society (ACS) and the Pennsylvania Breast Can- cer Coalition, Mrs. Schweiker spreads educational messages through public service announce- ments and outreach and advocacy activities like the annual ACS Daffodil Days celebration. Her dedication to finding a cure for cancer was recognized when she was presented with the Amer- ican Cancer Society’s Stanley A. Miller Excellence in Service Award in 1998. Mrs. Schweiker is dedicated to children and family advocacy issues. She works with the Pennsylvania Safe Kids Coalition, an organization that actively promotes awareness of acciden- tal childhood injury. A strong proponent of volunteerism, Mrs. Schweiker was appointed by Governor Ridge to the Community Service Advisory Board of PennServe, the Governor’s Office of Citizen Service, and has successfully completed the maximum two terms. Her work with families and communities was acknowledged with the Bucks County Boy Scouts’ 1999 Woman of the Year Award. Kathy Schweiker was raised in the Northwest section of Philadelphia. She graduated from Philadelphia's John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls School and earned her degree from the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science. Mark and Kathy Schweiker have two sons, Brett and Eric, and one daughter, Kara. ✮ See Addendum.
