Biography of Ambassador Mohiuddin AKM Ahmed
A career diplomat Ambassador AKM Mohiuddin Ahmed was born on Dec 31,
1946. He graduated from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1965. While a
final year M.A student he left the university to join the Pakistan Military Academy
as a Gentleman Cadet. He was commissioned in the army on July 1, 1967. He
served in Pakistan and the Bangladesh Army as a Lieutenant, Captain and Major
until he was assigned to the diplomatic corps in 1976.
His first diplomatic assignment in 1976 was to the Embassy of Bangladesh,
Algeria. He started his assignment as a second secretary then promoted to the
rank of first secretary. In 1982 he was posted to Thailand promoted to the rank
of Counselor. In 1986 he was posted back to home base - Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, Dhaka Bangladesh as Director and Deputy Chief of Protocol. In 1989.
He was promoted to the rank of Director General / grade 'C' Ambassador / and
served in the ministry as Director General from 1989-90. In 1990 he was posted
to the Embassy of Bangladesh in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as Minister and Deputy
Chief of the Mission. In 1993 he was assigned as Head of Mission with the rank
of Ambassador of Bangladesh in Iraq with concurrent accreditation to the
Kingdom of Jordan.
A graduate from the Pakistan Military Academy and the University of Dhaka with
major in history, Mr. Ahmed’s professional interest are mainly in the field of
Public Administration, Management, International Relations, Government and
Politics, Labor Employment policy planning, Economic trade, Commercial and
Cultural affairs.
Mr. Ahmed represented Bangladesh in many International and Regional
Conferences. In 1977 he was a member of Bangladesh delegation to the special
meeting of Food and Agricultural Organization in Algiers; In 1978 he represented
Bangladesh in the UN extraordinary meeting on Namibia. During 1983-86 he
represented Bangladesh during annual meetings of the United Nations Economic
and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific. In 1985 he participated in the
International Tele Communication conference in Thailand, and in 1993
represented Bangladesh in extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic
Countries in Jeddah.
Ambassador Mohiuddin Ahmed speaks Bengali, English, French, Urdu & Hindi
Languages. He takes keen interest in sports and social work. His favorite sports
are lawn tennis, bridge games & equestrian sports. He also takes keen interest in
social works and rural development activities. He is married and has two children
currently living and working in the United States.

Diplomatic Service:
1993-96 Minister & Charge d’ Affairs of Bangladesh in Iraq & Jordan.
Responsibilities:
Evaluation of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the host
countries. Monitoring, analyzing the political, social, economic and other
events and it’s effects on bilateral and international relations. Identify
areas / fields for development of mutual co-operations and advise the
government. Negotiate agreements on economic, trade, commercial,
technical and scientific co-operations. Maintain liaison and contact with
high political, social and bureaucratic level. Participate at national level
social, cultural and business events. Successfully carried out all
responsibilities as the chief of country’s diplomatic mission.
1990-93 Minister & Deputy Chief of Mission, Riyadh,Saudi Arabia.
Responsibilities:
Co-ordination and supervision of functions of all the wings of the
mission consisting of Political, Economic, Trade & commerce, Press &
information, Education & culture, Defense, Consular, Labor employment &
welfare( about half a million Bangladesh Nationals work in Saudi Arabia).
Was ex-officio President / Chairman of community related several
committees including School and College Managing Committee, Gulf War
Liaison Committee, Flood Relief Committee with outstanding success and
appreciation.
1989-90 Director General / Ambassador ( Far East & Pacific Division), Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
1986-89 Director ( West Asia wing), Deputy Chief of Protocol (Mission Service), at
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
1983-86 Counsellor & Head of Chancery, Bangladesh Embassy, Bangkok.

Mission’s Operation, Administration, Management, Accounts, Budget
control & Security. Public relations, Human resources, Planning &
Implementation. Preparation of reports and returns. Head of Protocol,
Consular & Cultural sections.
1976-83 First Secretary / Second Secretary, Bangladesh Embassy Algiers,
Responsibilities:
All functions relating to mission’s administration, budget & accounts.
Consular & welfare services, bilateral trade & technical co-operations.
Successful handling of trade and technical co-operations and employment
of Bangladeshi technical & non technical personnel in that country led me
to stay there for two consecutive terms. Represented Bangladesh in many
International & Regional Conferences including FAO, OIC, ESCAP, ITC
etc. as member of Bangladesh delegation. Traveled widely specially to the
countries of the Middle East, Asia and North Africa.
Military Service:
Attended Military Academy and Commissioned in Pakistan Army in 1967
1974-76 Major / Squadron Commander with about 200 soldiers and officers under
command and with independent responsibilities for administration,
welfare, training, planning, tactical deployment, maintenance of inventory
and equipments, duties in aid of civil authorities and emergencies etc.
19671-74 Captain and Officer in Charge of training company from 1971-72 with
responsibilities to draw plan and implement training programs for newly
recruited soldiers.
1969-71 Captain / Officer Commanding , Petroleum Storage depot for bulk receipt
of petroleum products from the refinery, storage in over & under ground
tanks / sheds, quality control, security and retail supply to various units.
Management & supervision of over 500 technical & non-technical
petroleum workers from 1969-71.
1967-69 Second Lieutenant / Lieutenant / Captain / Platoon /Company
Commander dealing with transport maintenance, logistic supplies,
tactical deployment, regimental staff duties etc.
Professional Training:
Did courses on Tactical operations, Logistic supplies, Automobile
Maintenance, Weapon handling, Horse back Riding and some other short
courses at army schools. POL (petrol, oil & lube) course at ESSO Eastern
Inc. APES ( advance petroleum engineering & supply) course at Pakistan
Refinery Ltd. Attended training at Foreign Affairs Training Institute & many
short courses and seminars.
