DR. RODNEY H. BRADY

Dr. Rodney H. Brady is a widely known and respected leader in business, education,
government, community and in his church. He received degrees of Bachelor of Science in
Accounting and Master of Business Administration from the University of Utah and Doctor
of Business Administration from Harvard University.
In his professional career he has served in top management positions in several major
corporations, including Vice President of Management Systems Corporation (1962-1966),
Vice President of the Aircraft Division of the Hughes Tool Company (1966-1970), and
Executive Vice President of the Bergen Brunswig Corporation (1972-1978). He has served
as a member of the Sub-cabinet of the President of the United States and as Assistant
Secretary for Administration and Management of the U. S. Department of Health,
Education and Welfare (1970-1972), as President of Weber State University (1978-1985),
President and CEO of Bonneville International Corporation (1985-1996), and currently
serves as President and CEO of Deseret Management Corporation, a large corporate
holding company.
Throughout his career he has served on numerous industry and corporate boards in the
fields of broadcasting and communications, pharmaceuticals, banking, aerospace, employee
benefits, youth development, executive training and management consulting.
Dr. Brady has taken a leadership role in chairing many national and local civic and
community organizations, including the President’s Sub-Cabinet Executive Officers Group,
U.S. Secretary of Education’s Committee on Accreditation, National Legal Center for the
Public Interest, Mountain West and Big Sky Athletic Conferences, Utah Governor’s Blue
Ribbon Commission on Tax Recodification, University of Utah National Advisory Council
and the University of Utah Eccles School of Business.
He has been honored by many local and national service and volunteer organizations and
has received Honorary Doctoral Degrees from the University of Utah, Weber State
University, and Snow College. He has served as a national volunteer leader of the Boy
Scouts of America for more than 30 years and has received Scouting’s highest local,
regional, and national honors, including the Silver Beaver, Silver Antelope, and Silver
Buffalo Awards.
Dr. Brady has served his church as a missionary to Great Britain, Bishop of the Westwood
California Ward, and as President of the Los Angeles California Stake. He also served his
country as an officer in the United States Air Force to the rank of Captain (1959-1962).
Dr. Brady was born and raised in Sandy, Utah. He graduated from Jordan High School as
valedictorian. He is married to Carolyn “Mitzi” Hansen, from Tremonton, Utah. She is a
graduate of the University of Utah with Bachelor and Masters Degrees, and holds an
Honorary Doctoral Degree from Weber State University. They are the parents of three
sons Howard, Ryan, and Brooks.

Mrs. Brady, former “First Lady” of Weber State College from 1978 to 1985, is a
very distinguished and accomplished woman in her own right.
In addition to having reared three very successful sons, she has taught elementary
school in New York, Texas, Arizona, and Massachusetts. She currently serves as a
volunteer teacher in an inner city school in Salt Lake City and in numerous
volunteer assignments in the arts and in other education endeavors.
As a young woman, Mrs. Brady earned a Bachelors Degree in Elementary
Education from the University of Utah and forty years later she earned a Masters
Degree in Education from the same institution. At commencement this year she will
be receiving an Honorary Doctor of Humanities Degree from Weber State
University.
