Dental Hygiene/Dental Assisting Library Resources Treasure Hunt This “hands-on” exercise is an introduction to the electronic resources available through the Library’s web site. While the purpose of this treasure hunt is to provide exposure to the vast amount of resources available in the “invisible web,” the questions do require a certain amount of searching and attention to detail. Procedure: Start at the Library’s Web Site for every question www.tri-c.edu/library - Do not attempt to use Google or any other search engine to answer the questions. Answer each question to the best of your ability and email Nancy Connor the answers Nancy.Connor@tri-c.edu , please be sure to provide a valid email address so feedback may be given. Using the Dental Hygiene/Dental Assisting Subject Guide, locate the full text resource Journal of Dental Hygiene Access the resource and answer the following questions: a. Is the journal peer reviewed? b. Locate the Winter 2006 issue and find the article “A comparison of the academic performance of dental hygiene certificate and baccalaureate students.” Read the abstract and explain what was concluded from the study? 5. Using the Dental Hygiene/Dental Assisting Subject Guide, go to the American Dental Hygienists’ Association web site. a. What is found under “Professional Issues?” b. What are some benefits articles/topics covered in the publication ADA News Today? 6. What Dental Program courses have Course Web Sites? Explore one of those course sites and list at least one useful resource. Describe what is found. 7. Go to the Course Site for Dent 2410 – Community Oral Health. How many libraries own the book by Harris and Garcia-Godoy, Primary Preventive Dentistry? 8. Under the Research Help section of the library’s web site, choose Reference Tools. What web sites are available for help with the writing process – look under Style Manuals and Writing Guides.
