Terminating an Employee HØBUS
Key Fields: Agency Number, Employee SSN 1 2 Enter R in the Subcommand field. Enter the following fields:
Employee Status Enter 03 (Terminated, but still eligible for payment). Reason Code Termination Date
3 Press the ENTER key.
Note: The system assumes an effective time of 5:00 p.m. on the termination date. If
termination date is prior to 5:00 p.m., you can use the hours dock feature or enter an adjustment on HUAU1.
Note: When an employee is approved by the agency to remain on the payroll to exhaust leave
time, the termination date is not the last day of duty, but the date the leave was exhausted.
4 Enter the following field:
Position Inactive Date (If applicable)
5 Press the ENTER key.
Note: Informational messages appear after you press ENTER. If position inactive date is not
entered, the system asks if you want to inactivate the position. If no inactive date is desired, press ENTER to process.
6 Press the ENTER key again.
Note: If the termination was due to an interagency transfer (065), coordinate with the
receiving agency so that the termination date and new hire date do not show a break in service; this includes weekends and holidays. For transfers to another USPS agency, see the Transferring Employee Data to the Receiving USPS Agency quick reference guide.
