BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (HONS) IN INTERNET COMPUTING Introduction The Programme intends to produce well rounded high-quality graduates for middle to top management roles in the IT industry. The Programme has been developed with good industry links to ensure that the graduates are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to meet the ever-changing and dynamic demands of the IT industry. Career opportunities exist in many internet computing areas such as internet and e-commerce applications development and support, general IT and network support and consultancy, system administrator, internet Programmer, network engineer etc., Programme Aims and Objectives The main aim of the Programme is to meet the demand of the local IT industry for highly capable, multi-skilled graduates as well as to develop these graduates to be competitive. The Programme seeks to address the skills shortage by providing potential students with the necessary knowledge and abilities that will be attractive to future employers.
Successful graduates will be able to: plan, design and supervise IT projects independently. undertake analysis and design tasks of IT using relevant methodology and standards. understand current and emerging Internet computing technologies. develop expertise and interest in topic areas of Internet computing technologies of direct and complementary relevance to their work The Programme is also designed to provide a platform for graduates’ career development, innovation and/or further study to postgraduate level.
Programme Structure and Content The BSc(Hons) in Internet Computing is a 3 year degree Programme which requires broad and extensive study of Internet, computing and IT-related topics. Other Skills and Knowledge Relevant skills such as research and design methodology will be imparted to students through workshops, seminars, short courses and other related processes throughout the second and final year of studies leading towards the completion of their final year projects. Students will also be exposed to other skills and knowledge such as in MIB and technopreneurship. Programme Duration 3 Years. Entry Requirements The minimum entry requirements to the Bachelor Degree in Internet Computing are: i. ii. iii. At least a credit six in the Malay language at GCE Ordinary Level. At least a credit six in Mathematics at GCE Ordinary Level. At least a credit six in English Language at GCE Ordinary Level or an IELTS score of 6.0 within the last two years or TEOFL minimum overall score 550 or its equivalent. a. A minimum of 200 ‘A’ Level points for 3 ‘A’ level passes including Mathematics and two other relevant subjects. OR b. A minimum of 180 ‘A’ Level points for 2 ‘A’ level passes including Mathematics and one other relevant subject. OR c. An International Baccalaureate score of 30 points with minimum of 5 points in Mathematics at higher level and preferably with two sciences or technology at higher level. OR d. Applicants with relevant HND qualifications will be received on a case by case basis to check for eligibility for exemptions. Those not qualifying for exemptions will compete with candidates of other academic backgrounds for entry into the first year.
Relevant subjects include Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Computing, Design and Technology, and Accounting.
