Program: Timber Framing
Presented by Colton Allen
Mr. Allen gave examples of historic timber framed structures. What is timber framing? Cut joinery to fit members together structurally. Timber framing allows a variety of infill and outfill wall types. Examples of contemporary timber framing were shown. Several wood sealants were recommended including Landark and Benite. Using an engineer that is experienced with timber framing and timber joinery is highly recommended. Radio frequency vacuum kiln drying is best for heavy timbers. Questions and answers followed the presentation. The meeting was adjourned at 1:15 pm. Submitted by Bruce Richey, AIA, Chapter Secretary.
