This quick reference guide is designed to provide you with a suggested response to various situations based on best practices established by reputable University and non-university organizations and entities. This information is only to be used as a guide. Situational judgment is always necessary.
Top 3 Emergency Tips

Sick or Injured Person Determine the basic nature of the sickness or injury Notify Police/Security immediately Stay with the patient until Police/ Security arrive Evacuation If you are informed of an evacuation via ENN message or other communication: • Evacuate the building at the nearest exit; notify others as you leave • Take all personal belongings with you (wallet, keys, ID’s, purse, etc.) • Do NOT use the elevator • Do NOT reenter the building • If you do not have your own transportation to leave campus, follow the directions of emergency responders Hostile Intruder If you see or are informed of an active shooter situation via ENN message or other communication: • Move immediately to a securable room; close/ lock/ barricade the door • Turn off lights, stay away from windows and remain calm and quiet • Do NOT open doors or windows to see “what’s going on” • Do NOT open the door for anyone except police • Only contact police if you have valuable information • Seek further information via web, telephone, text message, etc. • Use common sense

BLUE LIGHT PHONE FAST FACTS Blue Light Phones may be used to: •Report emergencies •Request a security escort •Report suspicious persons or activities •Obtain general information How a Blue Light Phone works: When you press the “call” button inside any blue light phone, you are immediately connected via a special landline, to a University dispatch center. The phone system will tell the dispatcher answering your call which Blue Light Phone you are calling from. How to use a Blue Light Phone: Press the “call” button. When the dispatcher answers, simply tell them the nature of your emergency or situation. Talk as you would on any other speaker phone.
