                                     Using Masks With Portraits
Starting Paint Shop Pro 7
1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to the Jasc Software folder, and select Paint Shop Pro 7.

2. Click the Open button             on the Toolbar.
3. The Open dialog box appears.
4. Next to Look in, click the drop-down arrow            and select Network Neighborhood.
5. Double-click Wright-ms1 to open it.
6. Double-click the Students 200_ folder to open it.
7. Double-click the Period _ Class Photos folder to open it.
8. If you do not see the picture files, click the Files of type drop-down arrow and select All files.
9. Click your photo to select it.
10. To make sure the file selected is the one you want check                 .

11. Click Open                   .
12. Click the Maximize button           to enlarge the canvas.

13. Click the Normal Viewing button             on the Toolbar.
14. The canvas is now at full size.

Selecting the Head

15. Click the Freehand tool            on the Tool Palette.
16. Look at the Tool Options Window.
17. Copy the settings in the picture to the right.
18. Click once with the Freehand tool on the top of the head.
19. A Smart Edge box appears on the pointer.
20. Continue to move clockwise around the edge of the head and neck—
    click whenever you have to turn.
21. Remember to keep the edge of the face, and hair inside the Smart
    Edge box.
22. Continue to select with the Smart Edge until you have all of your
    head and body selected.
23. Double-click when you get back to the starting point to close the selection.
24. Look at Figure 1.

Making a Mask
25. Click Masks on the Menu bar, point to New, and select Show Selection.
26. Everything except the selected area is masked. However, you cannot see the mask.
27. Click Masks on the Menu bar and select View Mask.
28. The area outside the selection should change color.
29. Press Ctrl+D to deselect.
30. Look at Figure 1.

Duplicating a Layer
31. Right-click the Background layer button on the Layer
    Palette and select Duplicate.
32. You now have two copies of your picture.
33. Click the Copy of Background button on the Layers
    Palette.

Adding Effects to the Background
The mask is allowing only the subject we surrounded with the selection to appear in the top layer. The
image looks unchanged at this point because we can see through to the background. When we make
changes to the background, we will still see the subject in the top layer, overlaying our changes.
Paint Shop Pro provides many powerful built-in filters that can produce a wide variety of effects. Your
teacher recommends you try as many of the options available under the Effects and Color menus as
possible. For example, changing the background could be as simple as increasing or decreasing color
saturation a lot, changing to negative colors, or greatly blurring or sharpening the image. Some fancier
effects can be found in the Artistic, Geometric, Reflection and Texture filters in the Effects menu. Let’s
look at some examples:

34. Click the Background layer button on the Layers Palette.
35. Click Effects on the Menu bar, point to Artistic Effects, and select Enamel.
36. The Enamel dialog box opens.
37. Click the Auto Proof button down and move the dialog box out of the way.
38. Under Presets, select Custom 1 to 6.
39. Experiment with the Presets until you find one that you like.
40. Click OK.
41. Look at Figure 2.

Saving the Enamel Background
42. Click File on the Menu bar and select Save Copy As.
43. The Save Copy As dialog box opens.
44. Next to Save in, click the drop-down arrow     and select your period folder.
45. For File name, type Enamel.
46. For Save as type click the drop-down arrow and select Paint Shop Pro Image.
47. Click the Save button.
48. The Enamel background photo is saved in the folder.

Undoing the Changes
49. Press Ctrl+Z.
50. The Enamel background is returned to normal.
51. Now you can try a different effect.

Trying a New Effect
52. Click the Background layer button on the Layers Palette.
53. Click Effects on the Menu bar, point to Artistic Effects, Geometric Effects, Reflection Effects, or
    Texture Effects, and select
    an effect of your choice.      Figure 3: This is the Colored Chalk Effect.
54. Look at Figure 3.

Saving the New
Background
55. Click File on the Menu bar
    and select Save As.
56. The Save As dialog box
    opens.
57. Next to Save in, click the
    drop-down arrow      and
    select your period folder.
58. For File name, type the
    name of your effect.
59. For Save as type click the
    drop-down arrow and select
    Paint Shop Pro Image.
60. Click the Save button.

Opening an Existing File
61. Click the Open button        on the Toolbar.
62. The Open dialog box appears.
63. Next to Look in, click the drop-down arrow       and select Network Neighborhood.
64. Double-click Wright-ms1 to open it.
65. Double-click the Students 200_ folder to open it.
66. Double-click your period folder to open it.
67. If you do not see the picture files, click the Files of type drop-down arrow and select All files.
68. Click Enamel to select it.
69. To make sure the file selected is the one you want check                 .

Changing the Background Color

71. Click the triangle on the Background/Fill button             and select Solid   .
72. Click the Background/Fill button, but not on the triangle.
73. The Color dialog box opens.
74. Under Basic Colors, select Black.
75. Click OK.

76. Under Textures, both the Foreground and Background should be set to Null            .

Adding Your Heading
77. Click the Text tool          on the Tool Palette.
78. Click once with the mouse pointer on the canvas.
79. The Text Entry dialog box opens.
80. Change the Font to Arial.
81. Change the Font Size to 14 points.

82. Select the Bold button           .

83. Select the Align Right button          .
84. Under Create As, select Floating and check Antialias.

85. Click the Standard text button                      .
86. Type your names and press Enter.
87. Type the date and press Enter.
88. Type the word Period and type the number.
89. Press Enter.
90. Type PSP Exercise 28.
91. Click OK.
92. The heading should now be in black on the canvas with a
    Selection Marquee around it.
93. Move the mouse pointer over the selected text until the pointer
    turns to a four-headed arrow  .
94. The four-headed arrow is called the Move tool.
95. Drag the text into a spot with good contrast.

Adding a Drop Shadow
96. The text should still be selected.
97. Click Effects on the Menu bar,
    point to 3D Effects, and select Drop
    Shadow.
98. The Drop Show dialog box opens.
99. Click the Color box.
100.    The Colors dialog box opens.
101. Under Basis Colors, select
   Black.
102.    Click OK.
103. Copy the settings in the picture
   to the right.
104.    Click OK.
105.    Press Ctrl+D to deselect the text.
106.    Press Ctrl+S to save your image.

Printing Multiple Images
107. Click File on the

                                          The Clone Brush
The Clone Bush         is great for performing special effects, including duplicating an image, and adding
a texture to that duplicate. The Clone Brush will take an area from one image and paint that area within
the same image, or to a second image. To start a clone it is necessary to RIGHT click on the area you
wish to clone, known as setting the clone source. Then move to the area to where you want the cloned
pixels to go, known as the clone target, and hold down the LEFT mouse button on that spot while
dragging to paint the clone. Let's try a cloning exercise to help understand this tool.

Cloning an Eye

147. Click the Clone Brush          on the
   Tool Palette.
148. Look at the Tool Options
   Window.
149. Copy the settings in the picture to
   the right for the left and middle tabs.
150. To start a source point, right click
   on the Michelle’s left eye.
151. Right clicking will set the source
   clone point.
152. Move the mouse pointer over the middle of Michelle’s
   forehead.
153. Watch Michelle’s eye. An X shows the area that is being
   cloned.
154. Do not let go of the left mouse button; just keep moving
   the mouse around the eye.
155. Trace out the Michelle’s eye and eyebrow the best you
   can.
156.    Let go of the left mouse button when finished.

Cropping the Image
157.    Click the Crop tool      on the Tool Palette.
158.    Drag out a rectangle around Michelle’s head.
159.    Resize the sides of the rectangle if necessary.

160.    Click the Crop Image button                   on the Tool Options Window.

162.    Press Ctrl+S to save.
163.    Close Michelle’s image but do not close Paint Shop Pro.

Cloning with Two Images

164.    Click the Open button       on the Toolbar.
