Ni-Cd Range

Overview and Features

Rechargeable Ni-Cd cells are classified as secondary cells, this term refers to the
fact that they are rechargeable. Ni-Cd cells have a positive electrode made of
nickel hydroxide and a negative electrode made of cadmium and some alkaline
electrolyte. The cell can provide more than 500 charge and discharge cycles. Our
cells provide long storage life with few limiting conditions they also provide
problem free charge after long storage periods.

Our range of Ni-Cd cells also offer a wide range of operating temperatures as
well as a reliable, self resealing vent, this means that each cell is built with a self-
resealing safety vent that provides safety and maintenance-free function, this
enables the cell to be charged or discharged in any position. Due to our special
material in the gasket and our patented sealing liquid compound probability of
electrolyte leakage occurs very rarely

Our Ni-Cd range can be divided into two chemical systems, namely the high rate
discharge type (P) and the high temperature type (H) cells. These two types have
being tailor made for specific applications.

High Rate Discharge Type (P type)

The P type battery has being developed for applications where discharge at large
current (5C to 10C) is required. By using edge-welded plates and terminals, the
P type cell has sharply reduced internal resistance and improved voltage
characteristics during high rate discharge.

The P type cell features excellent discharge characteristics at high rate, about
90% of rated capacity when discharged at 6CmA and 85% at 10CmA. The P type
battery is extremely economical in that the loss of capacity is very small when
discharged at large currents within a short period in addition the P type cell offers
excellent performance and long life equivalent to that of a general cell.

High Temperature Type (H)

The H type cell is a cell with improved trickle charge performance at high
temperatures being maintenance free and having a strong endurance for
overcharging, which no other secondary cell can offer. High temperature cells are
ideally suited for emergency lighting applications. By using a polypropylene
separator the H type cell can withstand an occasional temperature of 70 degrees.
Due to a special electrolyte, when charge is conducted at a low current 1/30C to
1/20C in a high temperature ambient, the H type cell has improved capacity
compared with a standard cell. In the H type cell, trickle charge time determines
the life span of the cell and not the number of cycles.
