Learning Process & Activity 6
• • For individuals to make positive statements about themselves. To introduce adjectives.
• Bank of positive adjectives to be copied onto A4 or A5 paper/card (landscape).
20 -30 minutes.
What to do:
1. Sit in a circle with the positive adjectives laid out in the middle of the circle. 2. Explain that the words in the middle are all adjectives - describing words. Adjectives can be used to describe things or people. 3. The task is for each individual, in turn, to choose three adjectives that they think apply to them (there may be more than three but choose the ones they think apply the most). If anyone thinks they might have difficulty choosing, then the rest of the group may be able to help them. Once each individual has chosen their three then they make a note of them and place them back in the middle and someone else has a turn. 4. Once they have done this they could take some quiet time to think about three that don’t currently apply but that they would like to apply to themselves, and what they would have to do in order to be able to pick them up in the future. (These could be noted down if they wish). (These adjectives can be used later as part of the team display).
Points to make:
• We are all individuals; there is no one in the world like ‘me’. We each have a unique combination of talents, abilities and qualities. Sometimes it can be difficult to describe what these are; sometimes it is difficult to see them in ourselves, so other people can be helpful in pointing out our qualities if they know us well. 20
