Health Promotion Role of theory Theory has been defined as a supposition, system of ideas, or an organized approach that is proposed to explain or illuminate and obscure what is of central importance of a given phenomenon. The term “practice discipline” is used for fields of study in which the central focus is performance of a professional role. Disciplines without a strong theory and research base were referred to as “soft,” a negative comparison with the “hard” natural sciences. Many of the soft disciplines attempted to emulate the sciences, so theory and scientific research became a more important part of academic life, both in the practice disciplines and in the humanities. Health is affected by the beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors of the individuals who live in the community. Health promotion is a way of thinking that revolves around a theory of wholeness, wellness, and well-being. In the practice of health care, the main function of theory is to provide new possibilities for understanding its focus in health promotion which facilitate development of health-promoting habits, like getting adequate exercise, rest, and relaxation, maintaining good nutrition, and control of tobacco, alcohol, and drug use. Its usefulness comes from helping us interpret phenomena from unique perspectives, building new understandings, relationships, and possibilities. Health promotion program The increased level of obesity presents confounding health and economic detriments. Body-weight, diet and exercise are important determinants of chronic illness, morbidity, and quality of life as recognized as fact by many. This predisposes a lot of people to assume a healthier lifestyle in the hopes of averting health impediments. With this improved behavior in

terms of health, their families and significant others have less anxieties with regard to their health conditions.

The Latino communities comprise a considerable number in the United States. One alarming marker as conveyed by reports is that sixty-nine percent of Latino adults are overweight or obese. The increased level of obesity presents confounding health and economic detriments. Body-weight, diet and exercise are important determinants of chronic illness, morbidity, and quality of life as recognized as fact by many. This predisposes a lot of people to assume a healthier lifestyle in the hopes of averting health impediments. With this improved behavior in terms of health, their families and significant others have less anxieties with regard to their health conditions. Health risks prevalent in one’s family and community must be looked on carefully to develop preventive measures and reduce risks for illnesses. A typical Hispanic diet is high in fiber, mostly indulge on fruits and vegetables as well as lots of beans for protein, but frequently are evaded after one or two generations in the United States. It will not be that difficult for them to go back to better diet preferences since by tradition, they have predilection to healthy kind of foods. All the same, the sustained unremitting growth and increasing costs of obesity leave little misgiving that a political response to this epidemic is inevitable. This endeavor proposes a shared program among the different health-systems. The participating medical centers for the community-based program will be John Muir Health – Walnut Creek and Concord campuses, Kaiser - Walnut Creek, Sutter Delta, and Contra Costa Regional Medical Center county facility. All of these mentioned had pledged to subsidize the

mechanism required to push through with the health promotion program of improving this community’s diet with the end result benefiting many people, even saving lives for that matter. Reducing smoking program

Regulation of smoking is a strategic aspect of work place health promotion. The program may include interventions beginning with a baseline inspection, a consideration of the impact of a self-help cessation program, and assessment of the effects of the cessation program. Measures for assessing smoking behaviors and the environment may be developed and utilized to learn about the standard pattern of behavior for smoking. Analysis for falling off can be used to find out links of the objectives of a smoker to quit and to adhere to a self-help program. The next step is valuation of smokers to a self-help cessation program measuring self- reported quit rates at the end of the program and the biochemically-proven cessation rate in for example a duration of six months. This program aims to strengthen fairly the standard behavior for not smoking at the work place and to increase the enrollment and success of smoking cessation programs.
