					Overview of GYSC/KC marketing activities
The Grid
The Grid is a free, quarterly publication, aimed at Glaswegian teenagers. It is fun,
trendy, entertaining, enlightening and educational and most importantly is written
by Glasgow’s young people. This magazine acts as a catalyst for tackling key
issues, bringing the latest news and offers to Glasgow Young Scots and keeping
them abreast of the changing face of Glasgow; socially, culturally and politically.
Current circulation of 50000 copies for GYSC age ranges.

Spring /Summer & Winter editions
These editions feature a special pull out section promoting the various offers and
competitions card holders can enter/access with their card at these times. These
editions are also direct mailed to over 38000 members with remaining amounts
available in various CSG / partner outlets.

Autumn edition
All 50000 copies of the Autumn edition are available for free pick up in secondary
schools, leisure centres, libraries, card supporter organisations and are available
from local area teams i.e. Youth Services, CAT, Service Dev etc.

The Grid Online
The Grid mag will also be available to view online from summer 08 and will allow
card holders to turn pages, read the content on screen and link through to enter
competitions. Each quarterly edition of the mag will be uploaded online.

The Wee Grid
The Wee Grid is also free and produced quarterly. It is a new publication and is
the younger sibling to The Grid. As the magazine is targeted at 5-11yrs there are
vast differences in what appeals to the younger and older end of this age group,
therefore a fun uniquely styled ‘reversible’ mag one end catering for 5-8 yrs and
the other catering for 9-11yrs coming together in the centre to feature the many
offers and services available with the use of the card is produced. The mag also
features interactive puzzles, reviews submitted by card holders through Points
For Views and a range of other topical info. Current circulation of 50000 copies
for KC age ranges.

Spring / Summer & Winter editions
These editions will be direct mailed to 42000 Kidz Card holders with remaining
quantities being distributed to primary schools, leisure centres, libraries, local
area teams etc.
Autumn edition
All 50000 copies of the Autumn edition are available for free pick up in primary
schools, a range of CSG / partner outlets, card supporter organisations and from
local area teams i.e. Youth Services, CAT, Service Dev etc.

GYSC info booklets (created once per year Jun – Jul available for distribution Aug )
Pocket sized wallet / info booklets are created each year to allow GYS card
holders to keep both their card and details on where they can use the card
together. Info booklets highlight the various services and year round offers card
holders can access. E.g. of current offers/services include – Xscape discounts/
high st fashion stores and food and drink discounts/ free swimming/ Points With
Your Plastic – leisure incentive scheme/ discounted gym membership / transport/
driving lesson offers /sports and cinema offers.

KC info booklets (created once per year Jun – Jul available for distribution Aug)

the card together. Info booklets highlight the various services and year round
offers card holders can access. E.g. of current offers/services include – Glasgow
Science Centre free entry /discounted entry to M&Ds Theme Park/ free
swimming at leisure centres / cinema access/library access/ discounts at high st
stores etc.

Email Alerts
Age specific email broadcasts are sent every month to card holders who have
signed up for email shots. Branded email templates are in place for KC (5-11yrs)
GYS (12-15yrs) and GYS (16-18yrs) . Info sent each month can be in relation to
upcoming events, new discounts, competitions or details on forthcoming
campaigns- i.e. Xmas and Summer.
Email Alerts (which don’t require any editorial) can be dispatched usually within
the next clear working day except larger emails like newsletters/campaigns which
require 5 clear working days.

GYSC Champion Forums
The GYSC team have established these forums to engage and consult with GYS
card holders throughout a variety of Glasgow Secondary schools. There are
currently 16 Champions each between 14-18yrs who meet every 6 weeks and
assist GYSC to engage, consult and market new initiatives directly to their target
audience. The roles and responsibilities of the champion are to promote GYSC in
their schools, encourage others their age to sign up for a card and email alerts
and review various services available through the card.
Billboard Designs
Approx 15 secondary schools and 2 colleges have had billboards installed at
prominent locations within their buildings. GYSC utilise these boards to market
key campaign information at Xmas, Summer and again for the start of the school
term in Aug to highlight the new offers available within the GYSC info
card/booklet.

Plasma ads (created once per year Aug – available for broadcast Sep)
30 sec – 1min animation ads are produced and broadcast in locations including –
via Fuelzone plasma screens within Glasgow Schools / Glasgow Community TV
screens at various locations across the city including bus stations, shopping
centres and hospitals and key partner outlets including Glasgow Science Centre.

Websites
The Young Glasgow pages and the Glasgow portal of www.youngscot.org can
be updated at any time throughout the year and include info on various offers,
services and news on what’s happening not only in local areas but also citywide.
The sites can also accommodate podcasts and video clips and currently has
review sections from events/ services accessed by card holders.
We also have bebo and myspace sites which are updated regularly.

Please note – websites, Your Area pages within The Grid, email alerts and
champions forums can all be area specific promotions.

Website updates(which don’t require any editorial) can be uploaded usually
within 5 clear working days or sooner depending on content. If your requirement
is urgent we may be able to use our Email Alerts as an alternative if web updates
will not be ready in time for your requirements.
