Vision and Mission
The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) exists for one simple reason: to strengthen America by advancing the college
education of Hispanic Americans. HSF is committed to the mission of doubling the rate of Hispanics earning a bachelor’s
degree to 18% by 2010.

Reporting Relationship
Reports to the CFO/VP of Administration
Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Vice President of Marketing and Communications is the management and creation of
marketing and development tools, collaterals, special events, cause-marketing, market and donor research activities,
internal and external communications and serve as the HSF Ad Council campaign leader. This person will deliver various
marketing support tools, publications, presentations, Web-site and other media content, media relations, PR as well as
manage a portfolio of fundraising activities involving events and corporate cause marketing that will significantly enhance
the fund raising capabilities and visibility of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.

Responsibilities include:

        Oversee and provide leadership for all marketing and market research, collaterals and development tool kits,
        donor and public relations, internal and external communications, events and branding initiatives and specific
        corporate cause marketing fundraising activities to support the organization’s fundraising goals.
        Manage the HSF staff responsible for all media and press events as well as fulfillment of internal and external
        requests, including Spanish-language media, and where appropriate, personally serve as HSF spokesperson with
        the press.
        Manage cause-related marketing initiatives and events with donors, universities and other partners.
        Develop HSF’s own image marketing strategies and pursue visibility opportunities with both Hispanic and
        mainstream media.
        Oversee and coordinate all HSF activities including AHOF, COAs and other fund raising events throughout the
        organization.
        Manage the marketing and communications budget.
        Manage all HSF marketing and communication content, including messaging on the HSF website and all mail and
        email marketing appeals to HSF constituents.
        Provide consulting and direct support for the communications needs of the Executive, Operations, Programs,
        Regional and Development teams at HSF.
        Personally support executive team and board communications needs, by writing speeches, fielding media
        inquiries and proactively pursuing visibility opportunities
        Serve as Campaign leader for the HSF Ad Council media campaign, manage all creation and fulfillment activities
        related to the campaign as well as manage all other outside marketing, communications and branding consultants
        Supervise an initial small staff significantly once HSF embarks on the Ad Council sponsored media campaign.
        Serve as an integral member of HSF’s executive team along with the CEO, VP-Development and CFO/VP
        Administration


Qualifications

        A masters or bachelors degree in journalism, communications, marketing or a related field.
        10+ years professional experience in corporate, nonprofit or government sales, development, marketing,
        communications or media relations.
        Demonstrated experience and success in developing marketing and sales tools, internal and external
        communications and working with media (TV, radio, print, Internet).
        Strong, flexible, independent leadership style with proven results-orientation.
        Multi-faceted management capabilities, including effective administrative and management abilities, a solid
        understanding of fundraising techniques, and strong public relations and negotiation skills.
        Exceptional written and spoken English skills; ability to communicate (orally and in writing) in Spanish is highly
        preferred.
        Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels and with different cultures.
        Extensive leadership and managerial experience: strategic planning, budget development and management,
        supervision, partnering and teamwork skills and conflict resolution.
        Big picture thinker: leads with vision, sets direction and thinks for the future.
        Non-profit experience a plus, but not a requirement.
