X specific valid norms Three broad norms: 1) Pathological Norm Abnormality definition – a diseased or disordered state portrayed by the existence of certain clinically recognized symptoms.
Normal – the one without symptoms!

One thing – symptom free person is an ideal which does not exist in reality 2) Statistical Norm Bell shaped curve – normal distribution Conclude that the genius and exceptionally emotionally stable as abnormal = severely mentally subnormal and the crippled neurotic!

Well adjusted normal personality
Western – ‘adequate feelings and security’ or ‘effective contact with reality’ Similar conceptualization – adolescent boy/girl, normal child and socially acceptable middle aged. No mention – religious, the spiritual aspect Not developed by empirical scientific research. Based on western cultural concept,values, materialistic society.

Disagree those finding & theories Don’t follow Quran define the normal/abnormality Find yourself positively ‘abnormal’, a misfit or at least untypical.
