Rob Jensen 646 posts since Dec 4, 2006 We have a SNL and I don't have the license manager updated yet for 2009 so I tried downloading SW 2009 and using my home use serial number so I can start testing. Well, I get a "invalid serial number" error. Has anyone tried doing this..?? I don't want to get IT involved to update the license manager and license file (which is still a temp file) just to test the new release.

e-mail from SolidWorks "The SN should be the same each year for your home use. The SN's do not get updated with each new version release. "

Solidworks 2008 SNL and SolidWOrks 2009 home use Oct 3, 2008 12:05 PM I can't argue what you see in writing, but I believe you should check it out because I still believe you need a new HUL. Is that quote from something that was released before 2009 maybe? I think I am basing my knowledge on this from what I was told by Anna a while back... http://forum.solidworks.com/fo...=y&keyword1=2009%20hul

Rob Jensen 646 posts since Dec 4, 2006 4. Solidworks 2008 SNL and SolidWOrks 2009 home use Oct 3, 2008 12:10 PM I'm not sure. I can't get in touch wth anyone to find out. I know when we went form 2007 to 2008 we got a new HUL. But now SW is saying that the HUL didn't change with 2009.

Gotta love it....!! What a pain..

Mike Conley 61 posts since Feb 8, 2008 5. Solidworks 2008 SNL and SolidWOrks 2009 home use Oct 3, 2008 5:26 PM this is a quote from the company we get our seats from: It looks like the serial number will remain the same for your HUL. I think you'll need to use the 2009 DVD to install because they do not allow the HUL serial numbers to get the upgrade from the internet. The 2009 DVDs should be shipping mid to late October

Rob Jensen 646 posts since Dec 4, 2006 6. Solidworks 2008 SNL and SolidWOrks 2009 home use Oct 6, 2008 10:41 AM Thanks Mike I know you can't use a HUL for beta. Why, I have no idea. It makes it very difficult to beta test when you have a SNL. I love the response you got from teh reseller "I think you'll need the DVD to install" I think they should know the answer to that. Nothing worst then trying it and it doesn't work.

I guess I ll have to wait till we get the Disc to try it. Ill post back if it dosent work.

Solidworks 2008 SNL and SolidWOrks 2009 home use Oct 7, 2008 3:43 PM Our SNL is still setup for 2008 and I did the same thing by using the current HUL to test 2009. I downloaded 2009 and created an admin image using our SNL serial number and then after installing a test client I edited the registry to change the serial to the HUL. It is working just fine for me.

Mitch Dohman 22 posts since Dec 18, 2006 9. Solidworks 2008 SNL and SolidWOrks 2009 home use Oct 28, 2008 6:43 PM I was told the same thing. The 2008 HUL # will be the same for 09. But I am getting the same answer that you are. I have been using the HUL ever sense we went to a SNL and I have had to sign an agreement every year and recieve a new number. I emailed my vendor today and they said SolidWorks is too busy with orders in the last week of the month to deal with users wanting the HUL to work. Kind of makes me mad...but what can I do?

Paul McGarr 396 posts since Feb 13, 2008 10. Solidworks 2008 SNL and SolidWOrks 2009 home use Oct 28, 2008 9:33 PM You can call SolidWorks yourself and ask for it. My guess is they need to supply it to you because otherwise they would be in violation of their own licensing agreement. I'm in the same boat and I will make this call tomorrow. I have been waiting patiently and your post reminds me that this isn't right. I'll let you know what I find out. Mitch, it's probably your VAR that is too busy. Paperwork needs to be filed. You know how hard that is.

Mitch Dohman 22 posts since Dec 18, 2006 11. Solidworks 2008 SNL and SolidWOrks 2009 home use Oct 28, 2008 9:37 PM I know what you mean Paul. BUt I plan on sending an email to my contact at SolidWorks tomorrow. It seems I went through her last year with my HUL. The part that makes me the maddest is that I asked my var for the HUL stuff about a month ago so I could be ahead of the game. Now I am behind...

Paul McGarr 396 posts since Feb 13, 2008 12. Solidworks 2008 SNL and SolidWOrks 2009 home use Oct 29, 2008 11:34 AM I called Solidworks and they just updated the 2008 HUL's to 2009...like yesterday. The serial number did NOT change from your 2008 HUL. I'm guessing that the "bad serial number" might be related to the installation media. It's probably true that you need to install with the DVD when it comes. Personally I will force an install and edit the registry to change to a HUL serial. I will do this tonight when I get home and post my experience. I wonder why there would be a restriction on using a downloaded installation with a HUL? I can understand in the past, but with activation, I don't see the reason. Anyway, I figured I'd share that...your serial numbers are good.

Mitch Dohman 22 posts since Dec 18, 2006 13. Solidworks 2008 SNL and SolidWOrks 2009 home use Oct 29, 2008 4:14 PM My guess is that the server data at SolidWorks had not been updated to allow 2009 hul yet. I got the response today that my serial number is the same. My install previously would error out when it connected to the SolidWorks website to verify the serial. I will try it tonight.

Mitch Dohman 22 posts since Dec 18, 2006 14. Solidworks 2008 SNL and SolidWOrks 2009 home use Oct 30, 2008 1:23 PM It is still a no go on my end. I wish it would work so I could test it out before I start installing images!!

Paul McGarr 396 posts since Feb 13, 2008 15. Solidworks 2008 SNL and SolidWOrks 2009 home use Oct 30, 2008 5:36 PM Works fine for me. Did you call SolidWorks? It takes just a minute.

Mitch Dohman 1 posts since Oct 29, 2008 16. Solidworks 2008 SNL and SolidWOrks 2009 home use Oct 30, 2008 11:16 PM It worked tonight...SW must have finally got the server updated.

Rob Jensen 646 posts since Dec 4, 2006 17. Solidworks 2008 SNL and SolidWOrks 2009 home use Oct 31, 2008 9:25 AM You know, maybe....just maybe SolidWorks could've updated this BEFORE sending out the DVD's. I haven't tried my HUL yet, but I know my VAR was working with SW to get it active for 2009.
