Emergency Management Procedures

Description This one-day training focuses on threat assessment and emergency management procedures. The goal is to help
schools better respond to behavioral threats, identify potentially harmful situations, and refine emergency
response procedures. These behavioral threats may come from within the school’s student or staff population and
can represent potential threats to themselves or others. Resources from the U.S. Department of Education and
U.S. Secret Service will supplement the presentation, including “Early Warning Timely Response: A Guide to
Safe Schools” and “Threat Assessment in Schools: A Guide to Managing Threatening Situations and Creating
Safe School Climates.” Dr. Balboni previously presented “Responding/Managing a School Crisis” at North River
Collaborative (November 2008).
Presenter Anne B. Balboni, Psy.D., EMT, I\C
Dr. Balboni is the state coordinator and clinical director of the state-wide Rhode Island Critical Incident Stress
Management TEAM, Inc. Anne earned a M.Ed., Masters in Counseling, Doctorate in Psychology, and serves as a
member of the ICISF Board of Directors, and faculty member for 12 ICISF classes. She has presented on crisis
intervention topics internationally and has assisted numerous groups in the development of crisis response
teams. Dr. Balboni is a member of the Rhode Island Disaster Mental Health Task Force and serves as adjunct
faculty at the Community College of Rhode Island in their Emergency Management Program. She has over 45
years experience in education, 28 years as an EMT, and 21 years as EMT instructor. In private practice she is
involved in CISM intervention, education & consultation with emergency service organizations, veteran's
organizations, schools & industry. Dr. Balboni is board certified in traumatic stress and credentialed as a
Diplomate with the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. She is a member of the International
Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists.
Target Audience School Counselors, Psychologists and other Experienced Professionals who will be responsible for responding to
a school crisis
