                          Sahara Desert Trek 2009
The Sahara desert stretches from the snow capped High Atlas mountains of Morocco to the
west, to the Red Sea coast 4800km to the East. Its landscape varies from stony flat expanse
to perfect wind blown sand dunes, broken only by the occasional oasis. The feeling of space
and of solitude is awesome and this trip will give you the unique opportunity to step into a land
where camels and Berbers share a wilderness that is forever changing shape.

Day One 6th November 2009
Today you will start your Sahara adventure as you fly from London to Marrakech. On arrival
you will be transferred to your hotel, where you can relax before your trip briefing. Dinner
included.

You will be able to take in the stunning views of the Atlas Mountains, from the Haouz plains
through the verdant foothills of the Oued Zat, to the barren peaks of the Atlas and the arid
regions around Ouarzazate. You will then stop for lunch at the beautiful Palm groves of

come to a band of tamarisk trees, clinging improbably to life amid the shifting sands. As you
take in the glorious surroundings keep your eyes peeled for the various species that have
successfully adapted to its harsh, arid conditions. 6 hours trekking. Full board.

Day Four 9th November 2009
This morning you will start walking on the dunes and traversing through the nomadic tents of
the Aït Atta people. They will have moved here with their animals from the Atlas Mountains in
winter, to escape the cold and the snow. After lunch you will head off again towards the tiny
village of Tafraourte near the Jbel Zireg. You will be able to take in the breathtaking views of
the surrounding plains and the distant peaks that sit astride the Algerian border. 6 hours
trekking. Full board

Day Five 10th November 2009
After breakfast you will start the morning by climbing a steep ridge and trek along until we

Is it for you? Temperatures can get very hot during the day and there is little
opportunity for shade. It can also get cold at night in the desert.
Walking in sand is tiring, but this trip limits trekking to
approximately 5 - 6 hours per day so this would require some
training but is suitable for someone of moderate fitness.
