400+ Martindale‐Brightwood homes get free Internet access
Estridge’s “FAN” concept brings Internet to families around Extreme Makeover site
INDIANAPOLIS (April 3, 2009) – Paul Estridge, Jr., president and chief servant of The Estridge
Companies, announced today that homes in the Martindale‐Brightwood neighborhood will
receive free Internet access as a result of his firm’s work with the local Extreme Makeover:
Home Edition project.
The Estridge Companies’ First Mile Technologies is working with ERS Data Solutions Group,
Motorola, Stoneware, Dell and other partners to deliver free wireless Internet access to about
450 homes within the Martindale‐Brightwood neighborhood. The initiative is being modeled on
the Free Access Neighborhood—or FAN— concept being developed by Estridge to deliver
Internet access to communities across the nation.
“When it comes to enabling communities for growth and connecting people, the Internet today
is as important as highways were 75 years ago,” said Estridge. “As a result, people without
Internet access live with a distinct disadvantage. Starting with Martindale‐Brightwood, we want
to help remove that disadvantage for as many communities as possible.”
In Martindale‐Brightwood, site of a nearly completed Extreme Makeover: Home Edition project,
most residents don’t have computers or computer access, Estridge noted. As a result,
neighborhood kids don’t have access to the resources countless other students use to finish
homework, do research and learn about the world around them, and parents can’t get online to
learn about their students’ progress, communicate with schools and investigate broader
To rectify this disadvantage, Estridge, Stoneware, ERS Data Solutions Group and Motorola are
collaborating with Indianapolis Public Schools to build a wireless “mesh” over the
neighborhood, giving area residents free, 24‐hour access to the Internet. This week, ERS began
installing receivers on light poles in the neighborhood, something that has never been done.
Dell and Intel are donating 100 laptops to neighborhood residents.
“By giving them Internet access, we want to help give these kids and families the same
opportunities and experiences enjoyed in so many other areas,” Estridge said. “Our hope is that
our FAN program will become a pilot or model that can be duplicated to other neighborhoods
throughout the city, and in other cities across the country.”

This project is just aspect of the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition project that Estridge believes
will leave a lasting impression on the community. Yesterday, it was announced that a closed
neighborhood school will become a community center.
“It’s amazing to see what can happen when we build together as a community,” Estridge said.
“It started with a TV show and one house. It’s become so much more … the regenesis of an
entire neighborhood. I am honored and humbled to be part of it, and excited to think of what
Now in its sixth season, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has won back‐to‐back Emmy Awards
as Best Reality Program (non‐competitive). The program is produced by Endemol USA, a
division of Endemol Holding. Anthony Dominici is the executive producer, and David Goldberg
is the president of Endemol USA. The show airs on Sundays (7:00‐8:00 CST), on the ABC
